Help! Moved iTunes files, Itunes Library still references old location

I need help redirecting the iTunes library file to reference the new drive.

Running 2010 27" iMac i7, OSX 10.6.8, 12 Gb ram - 2Tb internal HD, 8Tb external

First off, I copied my existing iTunes to the new hard drive using Carbon Copy (not the suggested process - I know!)

Now, I tried the option/start iTunes method, point the new location, iTunes starts just fine and I can view all my videos etc.

The problem is that when I get info on any of the (TV Shows) files - I can see that it is still linked to the old location.

The existing library still references the original location - as it should I guess.

I have not deleted any of the old/original files - I intend to keep them as my back-up.

I have changed Preferences > Advanced > "Itunes Media Folder Location" to reflect the new location.

I have turned "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" On - Off - On again, no effect!

I cannot find a way to change/reset the "iTunes Library.itl" file to reference the new hard drive. If I delete the existing .itl file, How do I get iTunes to scan my Itunes Media and rebuild the library?

Can anyone help me here please - do I have to delete the new iTunes collection and start over with a different method?

Moving Tbs of files is a long slow process

I've posted the same question on the Apple discussion site, but so far no response.

The Fraser Institute

The "research" the Fraser Institute produces is junk: have a happy Labour Day!

The so-called “institute” released a paper yesterday that asserts the more heavily the labour relations field is tilted in favour of corporate employers, the more “balanced” it is – an absolute inversion of reality.

This is no surprise because, no matter what the subject, Fraser Institute “research” always lines up precisely with the agenda of its corporate financiers.

However, in the past, the Fraser Institute at least has reported measurable facts accurately in the fine print even as it reached conclusions those facts could not support. Often, it cherry picked which numbers to count and, if that wouldn’t work, fell back on statistical sleight of hand and simply reported conclusions unsupported by the evidence.

* * * *

in the Vancouver-based organization’s 2012 Labour Day report – which unsurprisingly reached virtually identical conclusions to this year’s effort – the statistics accurately reported in the back pages showed the opposite of the “conclusions” reached by the researchers.

This is a very common Fraser Phenomenon, often noted in the pages of this blog. Recently, to cite just one other example, a Fraser Institute report that concluded “Alberta’s finances are in worse shape than other energy-producing provinces and states” was based on hard numbers that in fact showed Alberta’s finances are in better shape than other energy-producing provinces and states.

* * * *

this year, the Fraser Institute seems to have dealt with this chronic problem by simply eliminating the embarrassing data contained in their previous Labour Day releases on labour market performance entirely and moving directly to writing fiction.

The 2014 Labour Day report continues to have pretty charts with coloured bars and lots of numbers, but they don’t report on any metrics that are actually relevant to the paper’s two authors’ stated belief that laws making it hard for unions to operate produce higher living standards.

The reason, of course, is that if you actually dig out the hard numbers not found in this latest Fraser report, they show the opposite, just as economist Andrew Jackson illustrated with the numbers the Fraser Institute published in 2012.

So the “conclusions” of the 2014 Fraser Institute Labour Day paper are nothing more than the authors’ unsubstantiated opinions.

In other words, the Fraser Institute is now applying the methodology of “creation science” to the study of economics! The results, of course, are much the same.

The Fraser Institute’s holy, beneficent and all-powerful market, like the notion of “intelligent design,” is at base a religious view, although one that conveniently serves the economic interests of the “institute’s” financiers.

Too much storage space now

So I was looking at a Drobo.

I run a Mac Mini as a server at home. Had a 4TB RAID TB drive with iTunes etc on it and a 6TB RAID FW800 drive for backup. Both were about 3/4 full so started looking at expanding. Basically have about 3TB of data plus family and Time Machine backups.

Well, ended up buying G-RAID 8TB TB drive and a Lacie 2big NAS which I threw a couple 1TB drives into. Now all of a sudden I have too much HDD space...haha

My offsite backup is just a 500GB drive that I backup to once a week and leave at work.

Anyway, I'm thinking about moving my "user" folder off the internal MM drive onto the G-RAID. Does this make sense? How best do I do this?

All the RAIDs are striped not mirrored, any thoughts on which drives to use for what? I was thinking about moving some of the drives into different enclosures, i.e. move the two 3TB drives out of the FW800 enclosure into the 4TB enclosure or maybe moving some drives into the NAS enclosure and use it as backup, it's the slowest transfer rate of them all I think.

What to do?

So, I finally took the plunge and bought a new MBP to replace my 2010. I picked up a loaded MBP 13" Retina (along with a USB superdrive). I now have a $110 gift card to use...

What should I get? :-)

I'm thinking maybe a 3TB timecapsule, but I have a 2TB usb drive that I use every so often, and already have a dlink router. Which makes me feel like it's not worth me getting it. I plug in the laptop at least once a week and work at my desk with my wacom, keybaord, 2nd monitor.

I have a magic mouse.

I don't need an apple TV, I have a mac mini connected to my tv.

I have an andoid phone (HTC One m7 developer edition which is 64GB) and tablet (Nexus 7).

I have a colour laser scanner/fax/printer.

I have a point and shoot and good dslr.

Anyone have a good thought?

Chess

Anyone play?

I first leaned from my father at about 7 years old.

I played with him a bit now and then until I went to university. Of course I always lost. Kind of like playing pool with him until later in life when I could win, but that is another thread..

Then I started plying with friends at university and suddenly my win to loss ratio shot up dramatically.

It seemed without my being aware of it my dad taught me a thing or two...

Of course there we a couple of guys I could never beat (bastards ;)) but I (almost) always enjoyed the learning experience.

Then I didn't play for a few decades (life you know) but then I started again recently (2 weeks or so) playing against the computer and iPad programs/apps. At this point on both types I am about a 5 out of 10.

But for me the main thing that I have noticed is that since playing chess again (at 51) my brain already feels more "fit".

New CRTC proposals

Regulator offers up broad proposals for changing Canada's TV delivery system

Quote:

OTTAWA - Canada's broadcast regulator has issued broad new proposals that could, if adopted, dramatically alter how Canadians receive and pay for their television.

The proposals issued Thursday by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission include requiring cable and satellite providers to offer a basic service made up primarily of local Canadian channels — something CRTC chairman Jean-Pierre Blais calls "skinny basic."

The CRTC is also proposing a so-called pick-and-pay structure that would allow Canadians to choose individual channels, on top of a basic service.

Further:

The regulators says it has not yet decided which options it will enforce, and is giving the public until Sept. 19 to offer comments on the proposals online.

Gmail problem

I use the iOS mail app to read my Gmail on my iPad. A few days ago, it started downloading more and more old messages and marking them unread. At one point it downloaded 24,000!!!!!

I've marked them read, but the next time I check my mail, there they are again.

I have 4 gmail accounts and this happens with only one of them.

I deleted the account from the iPad, but when I re-connected all those messages were there again.

The same thing is happening on my iPhone. When I go to the gmail app on my iPad, the messages are there also and to complicate things, they are in reverse order!!!!!

Also in reverse order in browser on my PC.

Weird huh?

Previously unknown Monuments Discovered Underground in Stonehenge

The more they investigate, the more they find it would seem . . .

Quote:

A groundbreaking new survey of Stonehenge and its surrounds has revealed fifteen previously unknown Neolithic monuments underground, according to a new report released by the Smithsonian Institute. The results show that there is a lot more to Stonehenge than meets the eye.

It has long been known that Stonehenge was not just an isolated monument in an unspoilt landscape, but was part of a much bigger complex.*

This is evidenced by the scattering of mounds, ditches, burials, and other significant monuments, such as Woodhenge, Coneybury, the Cursus monument, and Amesbury Long Barrow, all within a short distance of the famous stone circle. Now a new research project using magnetic sensors to scan landmarks in Wiltshire have found even more evidence of human activity, which have lain hidden underground for thousands of years.

I finally let go of the iPad 1. Didn't make many weight gains though. This iPad 4 is about the same weight that I can tell off hand, but feels much thinner. Although not the 1st thing on my list, I've finally opened myself up to some more interesting apps. Haven't really bought anything in a whilst with my 5.1.1 restrictions. I still mostly use my iPad to read books (dev ones) and NYT for iPad, and do the quick reference searches here and there...

For Sale Mac mini Server (Quad Core i7, 8GB)

This is the 2011 model, like Mac mini "Core i7" 2.0 (Mid-2011/Server) Specs (Mid-2011, MC936LL/A, Macmini5,3, A1347, 2442) @ EveryMac.com but with memory upgrade to 8GB.

With quad core i7, dual drives (even with same speed, 2 500GB drives outperform a single 1TB drive for many tasks) , faster 7200 rpm drives and increased memory this is one powerful mini.

I bought this for a short term project where I need to run more VMs than my main mini can handle. I have the standard version of Mavericks installed, but you can revert to the server version through a Recovery Install if that is what you want.

$520 is a fair price. I'll keep it in case another project arises before selling for less. Would prefer a local sale in Ottawa, but will ship at buyer's expense. Since it's a mini, expense will be modest (around $20 insured to GTA, for example).

Extreme Router with Eastlink -problems

Hi all. I have an Apple Extreme WIFI router that I used for years with Aliant's DSL internet service. I recently switched to Eastlink here in NL, as it's a full 10x faster where I live. The issue is this: After booting up the eastlink router, the Apple router will find it, and broadcast wifi with no issue. My devices will pick up the Extreme with no issue.

But after leaving the house with a device, whether iphone or Macbook, upon returning the device will find the wifi being broadcast by Extreme but says No Connectivity. Eastlink must be rebooted each time a device leaves the house and returns.

Anyone else run into this? Eastlink suggests that the Extreme may need to be configured differently from the DSL to their internet, but as the Extreme is not theirs, cannot help with this.

Any help is appreciated!

PowerBook G4 12" Adaptor won't insert?!

Got a new power adaptor from a helpful ehMacer today - worked with an old PBG4 12" and on an iBook my uncle pulled from the dump!

But when I went to put it BACK into the PBG4 12" The adaptor physically will not go all the way in. Maybe like 1/2 way and obviously that won't power the machine. It's like something's blocking it, but it went in like 5 minutes before. Nothing fell in that port in those 5 minutes.

Visual inspection reveals nothing - can't see if anything's blocking it somehow. Tried twisting it around, to see and nothing. Google turned up nothing.

Anyone know if there is a trick here I'm missing? Or if this is a common problem? Only thing I can think of is putting the adaptor in there, and then taking it back out somehow pulled something inside that's now blocking re-insertion? (insert joke here!).

Any constructive insight greatly appreciated!

Recommendation for a new Digital TV Tuner

My Trusty old EyeTV 250 plus died this evening - I suspect the last/current thunderstorm - my iMac keyboard is also acting strange, but I have another.

Anyway, Elgato no longer makes or distributes the EyeTV 250, so I'm looking for a replacement. They suggest on their web-site, something called "HDHomeRun PLUS" which is supposed to run with EyeTV's software.

I'm in the process of checking the reviews and looking for other possible hardware - the essential requirement is that it must work with Over-the-air digital TV - not cable or satellite!

I'm currently running 10.6.8 on a 2010 27" iMac i7

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Long and short is that it is no replacement for a Mac laptop. I'm taking it back today and exchanging it for a MBP. With Apple things just work! What was I thinking?

Mid-2010 MB Pro + Yosemite - SSD Boot Drive space disappearing

Computer: MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010), 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5

Operating System: Yosemite 10.10

RAM: 4 GB

Over three months ago, installed a SSD in the original HD slot, and moved the original HD over to the DVD slot.

Less than 2 GB left on my boot drive (the SSD). Something is eating up disk space. I freed up 60 GB of space and it quickly was gone. I do not have my Crashplan software on (which backs another computer up to this one), and Time Machine is not used on the computer.

I have restarted the machine several times and there is still very little room. I installed iStat, but am not really sure what I should be looking at here. Puzzled at what this might be.

How do I become an Apple Certified Technician?

I know this topic has been discussed before, but not recently, so I'm wondering what the current requirements are, and the process involved.

I have been working with Apple products since 1996. I've troubleshooted and repaired numerous products ranging from iMacs, PowerMacs, PowerBooks, MacBook and MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs, iPods, and iPhones.

The main thing that has prevented me from pursuing this much earlier is the price tag involved with the actual certification. However, I finally have the means to pursue this. Troubleshooting and repairs is something that I really enjoy doing, and would love the opportunity to do it for a living.

So any help to steer me in the right direction is appreciated! :)

Mac ('07) Overheating

Hi to all. New to this forum. Having a problem with my Mac overheating after about 1 1/2 hrs. use. My warranty's expired and I'm completely inexperienced when it comes to opening or replacing anything inside a Mac but am more than willing to learn.

I'd definitely appreciate any possibly helpful technical solutions to this problem (as well as a redirect to any similar postings on this site). If my Mac's fan absolutely has to be replaced, how much does that generally cost and any recommendations to a west-west-end Toronto/Mississauga certified shop known for its great customer service?

Yosemite Beta to Mavericks user migration

OK, this wasn't very smart but we are where we are...

I've installed the Y-Beta on our home machine (which is not used that often actually) and left all the other machines on 10.9.4

My daughter is now off to university and I've prepared a nice MBAir for her with fresh apps etc. Only problem is that I would like to migrate her data from her account on the home machine. As we know the first thing that Migration Assistant checks is that both machines should be of the same OS version, so I assume a regular migration cannot be done at this stage.

Therefore 2 questions:

- Can I just lift data, say iTunes (library, prefs, playlists, etc.). Where do I find the files I need and will there be a problem with doing from iTunes 12 to iTunes 11?

- When Yosemite becomes available, will I be able to do an 'add-on migration' i.e. everything except iTunes for example?

Thanks

For Sale Free - Key Caps for Apple Keyboards

I have a few older Apple keyboards with various problems - usually a few keys don't work anymore or hitting one specific key causes jibberich on the screen.

Rather than just throw them out I thought I list those keyboards here in caseanyone needs a key cap from those keyboards or some other part.

Any item is free, I'll even pick up the postage on small light items like a key cap as long as I don't get dozens of requests.

The keyboards are:

A 1048 in white

M 7803 in white

M 2452 in black

PS: The keyboard items are FREE even though the prefix says "For Sale" since there is no "Free" prefix and the ehMac software won't let me post without selecting a prefix

Opinions on Ferguson, Missouri situation?

Hello, Eh Mac friends and neighbors! I have recently returned from supervising the building of my husband's and my log home in the Missouri Ozarks and am sickened by what has occurred in Ferguson, Missouri. Since we have opted to eliminate all but local Television here in Oklahoma, we rely on internet sources for news and commentary. I came here tonight to see what you all thought about the "crisis" in St. Louis.

And discovered it hasn't even been discussed!

So... let me introduce what I find disturbing and see if anyone would like to explain to me why it isn't a big deal at all.

I personally am horrified by what is going on in Ferguson, Missouri. I follow a forum that provided a link to an eyewitness account of the killing of the teen that led to this. The link is no longer active and the news is NOT covering this at all. I'm posting it here because I think it is important.

...This MSNBC interview with an eyewitness to the Michael Brown shooting (which, unless you have twitter, you probably haven’t heard about because every major network has simply refused to cover the story in any detail whatsoever) is absolutely chilling:

The police say the officer shot Brown after the teen shoved the officer and tried to wrestle the officer’s gun from him. But a number of witnesses, including Johnson, refute those claims. And in the wake of the shooting, the Ferguson Police Department has asked the St. Louis County police to step in and take over the investigation.

http://ift.tt/1BoR8qm...) 100% 100% no-repeat;">***

About 20 minutes before the shooting, Johnson said he saw Brown walking down the street and decided to catch up with him. The two walked and talked. That’s when Johnson says they saw the police car rolling up to them.

The officer demanded that the two “get the f—k on the sidewalk,” Johnson says. “His exact words were get the f—k on the sidewalk.”

After telling the officer that they were almost at their destination, Johnson’s house, the two continued walking. But as they did, Johnson says the officer slammed his brakes and threw his truck in reverse, nearly hitting them.

Now, in line with the officer’s driver’s side door, they could see the officer’s face. They heard him say something to the effect of, “what’d you say?” At the same time, Johnson says the officer attempted to thrust his door open but the door slammed into Brown and bounced closed. Johnson says the officer, with his left hand, grabbed Brown by the neck.

“I could see the muscles in his forearm,” Johnson said. “Mike was trying to get away from being choked.”

“They’re not wrestling so much as his arm went from his throat to now clenched on his shirt,” Johnson explained of the scene between Brown and the officer. “It’s like tug of war. He’s trying to pull him in. He’s pulling away, that’s when I heard, ‘I’m gonna shoot you.’”

At that moment, Johnson says he fixed his gaze on the officer to see if he was pulling a stun gun or a real gun. That’s when he saw the muzzle of the officer’s gun.

“I seen the barrel of the gun pointed at my friend,” he said. “He had it pointed at him and said ‘I’ll shoot,’ one more time.”

A second later Johnson said he heard the first shot go off.

“I seen the fire come out of the barrell,” he said. “I could see so vividly what was going on because I was so close.”

Johnson says he was within arm’s reach of both Brown and the officer. He looked over at Brown and saw blood pooling through his shirt on the right side of the body.

“The whole time [the officer] was holding my friend until the gun went off,” Johnson noted.

Brown and Johnson took off running together. There were three cars lined up along the side of the street. Johnson says he ducked behind the first car, whose two passengers were screaming. Crouching down a bit, he watched Brown run past.

“Keep running, bro!,” he said Brown yelled. Then Brown yelled it a second time. Those would be the last words Johnson’s friend, “Big Mike,” would ever say to him.

Brown made it past the third car. Then, “blam!” the officer took his second shot, striking Brown in the back. At that point, Johnson says Brown stopped, turned with his hands up and said “I don’t have a gun, stop shooting!”

By that point, Johnson says the officer and Brown were face-to-face. The officer then fired several more shots. Johnson described watching Brown go from standing with his hands up to crumbling to the ground and curling into a fetal position... ) end of article.

I realize the race element is part of this, but I think all of us paying attention know that the militaristic nature of our police forces (no longer servants, are they?) are frightening.

My friend in Ireland shares this: We had armed police with batons, we had British army in tanks at peaceful protests....they shot and killed unarmed people in Derry and other places and denied it for 40 years....said there were gunmen in the crowd. This is all too familiar to me, Margar.Really...they can do and say what they want to....who is going to argue? http://ift.tt/1o16Qha(1972)

Does anyone else believe this is a major turning point in my country?

Drobo strategy?

Looking for some advice here if I may.

My setup; Mac Mini server with iTunes running 24/7 serving up to MBA, couple of iPads, iPods, iPhone and Windoze laptop. MM has one 256SSD (system and apps) with a Thunderbolt 4TB RAID attached (all media including iTunes library etc.) and a FW800 6Tb WD RAID setup as my backup drive, It backs up the MM (internal drive and the 4Tb media drive), MBA and the Windoze.

So both external drives are usually 3/4 full.

So I was thinking about replacing the two external drives with one Drobo. Just the basic one with USB3 not the TB, double the price. Looks like r/w speeds are around 130/80 so enough to feed HD, no heavy video editing needed.

I'm liking the Drobo for the hot drive swap and backup redundancy. Will probably load it with four 4Tb drives which I believe works out to about 10Tb of actual storage.

Thought about a NAS and that's why I installed Server on the Mini thinking it's a high end NAS. Still trying to figure out the Server App though.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts?

Thanks

Viking Ship Discovered Near Mississippi River

Hmmm, the things we never knew.

Quote:

Memphis- A group of volunteers cleaning up the shores of the Mississippi river near the biggest city*in Tennessee, have stumbled upon the remains of an ancient boat encrusted in mud. A team of archeologists from the University of*Memphis that was rapidly called to the site, confirmed that the ship is most certainly a Viking knarr, suggesting the Norse would have pushed their exploration of America a lot further than historians previously thought.

The heavily damaged ship was found near the*confluence of the Wolf and Mississippi rivers, and lies on a private property. It has a length of about 16 meters, a beam of 4.5 meters, and a hull that is estimated capable of carrying up to 24 to 28*tons, a typical size for this type of ship. Knarrs*were naval vessels*that were built by the*Norsemen from Scandinavia and Iceland for Atlantic voyages, but also*used* for trade, commerce, exploration, and warfare during an era known as the Viking Age, that goes approximately from 793 to 1066 AD. They were clinker built, which*means the overlapping of planks riveted together. It was capable of sailing 75 miles (121*km) in one day and held a crew of about 20 to 30 men.

Apple Begins Storing Users' Personal Data On Servers In China

More details in the link.

Quote:

(Reuters) - Apple Inc AAPL.O has begun keeping the personal data of some Chinese users on servers in mainland China, marking the first time the tech giant is storing user data on Chinese soil.

The storage of user data in China represents a departure from the policies of some technology companies, notably Google Inc GOOGL.O, which has long refused to build data centres in China due to censorship and privacy concerns.

Apple said the move was part of an effort to improve the speed and reliability of its iCloud service, which lets users store pictures, e-mail and other data. Positioning data centres as close to customers as possible means faster service.

The data will be kept on servers provided by China Telecom Corp Ltd 0728.HK, the country's third-largest wireless carrier, Apple said in a statement on Friday.

"Apple takes user security and privacy very seriously," it said. "We have added China Telecom to our list of data centre providers to increase bandwidth and improve performance for our customers in mainland china. All data stored with our providers is encrypted. China Telecom does not have access to the content."

A source with knowledge of the situation said the encryption keys for Apple's data on China Telecom servers would be stored offshore and not made available to China Telecom.

Apple has said it has devised encryption systems for services such as iMessage that even Apple itself cannot unlock. But some experts expressed scepticism that Apple would be able to withhold user data in the event of a government request.

Dead MBP

Hello all. I recently acquired a 13 inch MBP. I believe it is a 2009 model. (Purchased from Ebay)

All I get from this computer is a very dim green light on the magsafe connector.

I have tried a new DC in board and a new Magsafe PS. I have also tried an SMC reset, with no luck. I have taken the logic board out and examined it finding no obvious damage. I cleaned the board and even with everything disconnected I still only get a dim green light.

If I plug my Magsafe into a functioning laptop, then immediately switch to the problem MB, I can sometimes get a bright green light, but after a minute or so, the green light fades.

From what I can tell by reading online, I believe the fuse for the screen is open. But I wouldn't think that would kill the entire LB.

I have tried the keyboard bypass to try and start it up with no luck, but I do get power to that area.

If any one has an idea of where else I could look at that would fantastic. I am comfortable with doing my own repairs, even soldering if necessary, I'm just unsure where to look. Thanks

I need you guy's opinion..

I just got myself a 2011 13" macbook pro for a very good price. It's 7/10 condition with a few scratches and dents. I just upgraded it with a 128gb SSD and 8gb ram, so specs are identical to my mini..

Now, deciding if i should keep it and sell my mini or just resell the MBP for profits? I will eventually need a laptop but i was looking more for a macbook air 11 or a retina...

How do people even USE Windows?

Why do I even have a Windows machine?

My grandson foolishly thought he could manage with a Dell lug top for uni. I think he tried to carry it in his backpack and realized uni was going to be way more work than it needed to be. So we made a deal and I ended up money ahead, but stuck with this brick.

It's only a few months old, running Win8, and I have no doubt it's a perfectly serviceable computer, but trying to web-surf with all the pop-up ads is nearly impossible.

Ant helpful hints will be greatly appreciated.

OS X shut down instead of sleep?

Back in the days of MacOS 7.6, there used to be a control panel called CPU Energy Saver.

It allowed you to select "Shut Down Instead of Sleep", so the Mac would actually turn itself off after a period of idleness. This caused some frustration because if you installed the 7.6.1 update, your machine could shut itself off partway through if you hadn't adjusted the default idle time. Much hilarity ensued.

It's long gone, but I have Macs on three different levels of the house, some used for ten minutes a week and then abandoned, and I would love to have them set up to quietly shut down all by themselves, rather than go to sleep.

There are apps that do this that cost between $10 and $50, which seems steep for such a one trick pony. There should be a simple script/daemon that can accomplish this, but I haven't found one. Has anybody done this or found it on the InterWebs?

wireless printing help using AirPort Express

Hi all. I have what feels like a stupid question as I cannot seem to google an answer spelled out in very simple terms.

I have a Xerox WorkCentre 3210 printer, wireless internet, and an old AirPort Express. My wireless internet router is in the basement, all the way across the house from my office.

Questions are:

1. Is there any way to connect the AirPort express to the wireless network without having it physically connected to the wireless router via ethernet cable?

2. And / or - can I connect my printer to the AirPort Express using the USB and/or ethernet cords for wireless printing? The printer will network… it has USB and ethernet ports.

I'm not a complete noob but I don't understand the limitations of how AirPort Express works. I just used to use it for wireless internet before I got a wireless internet router.

Am hoping I can make my printer a wireless printer without having to physically connect the printer AND the Airport Express (via USB cable) then the Airport Express AND the wireless router (via ethernet cable)…. which means my printer would have to reside in the basement, which is just not going to happen.

Unknown Error in Restoring iPhone

My daughter just purchased an iPhone 5c and wiped everything on her old 4s of which I am trying to Restore on my MBP. The iPhone gets the "plug into iTunes" screeen, I plug it in, iTunes "Detects an iPhone in recovery mode", I click Okay and Restore and Update to restore it, the software extracts and the iPhone is prepared and then, somewhere along the way, I get the "unknown error-9" as seen in the screenshot attached. Can't get past that. Is it bricked? What might I try? The battery was down to 10% on the first try but it must be charged by now. I'd really like to get some more life out of this till I get the upcoming iPhone 6.

I have been reading a lot about Canvas Fingerprinting recently; and I was under the impression that Apple does not do that. However, today I went to iCloud.com and I got an popup saying that the site might be canvas fingerprinting. See screenshot.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Cheers

Anybody have experience with BBZ10

Good evening all, I know this is probably not the best question to ask around here, but does anyone have experience with the BlackBerry Z10? How well does it sinc with the iMac? Any major problems and any regrets with it.

It is contract renewal time and I can get it for $0.00. I just do not feel like paying the extra dollars to get an iPhone 5s.

USB Wireless Adapter

Does anyone have a good recommendation for an external USB Wireless card compatible with OS X 10.9? Looking for something better than the internal airport card. Was going to go with the Alfa AWUS036H but it doesn't appear to have a 64bit driver.

Talent You Don't See Or Hear Everyday

I though it might be interesting to start a thread with an opportunity for members to share talent they happen to run across browsing the web. I am always on the lookout for stuff for my web site, but every once in while I run across something I add to my permanent music collection. This is the case with this guy, Juzzie Smith, who is shown busking at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2008. I love this guy's talent and alternative music as a one man band.

How do I Host my website from my mac?

Hi All,

Im building a website using sandvox. I have registered my web address, but I just found out there is a way that I can actually host my site from my mac.

My mac is on, 24/7

Im running OSX 10.8.5, 2.66GHz Quad, with 6GB RAM. Its a MACPRO.

What I am looking for is the idiots guide on how to host a website, with the hardware that I have. I did a few searches, and I came up with DRUPAL and MAMP, but the user guides left me hanging.

If anyone can point me to the right direction, that would be fabulous.

Thank You (in advance)

MBA 2012 sudden death syndrome

Hey guys

We'll. happy to have AppleCare on this MBA! Simply using my Mac Pro last night. Other and keep my MacBook Air next to me opened at the same time. Turned around screen was off.. Thought it was in sleep mode or screen off. Tried to awaken it.. Nothing! Just like that it died .

Bought it used this spring and came with an unused AppleCare. So I registered it right away.

Sucks! Luckily I have other apple devices to get me through the day.

Will apple offer me a new replacement perhaps? Is it an option? This is the 11", 64 ssd, 4gb ram 2012 model. Wow a whole 2 years of life :(

Sharing my disappointment! But it happens..

Weird email issue from any website

I have a Mac Mini running Safari 7.0.5 and anytime I click on an email address in Safari, it takes me to the Safari Top Sites page! It never sets up an email like it should. I want it to open in Mac Mail. Does anyone know how to fix this? It has done this since I got the computer in May.

Macbook Air lifespan

I've had my black Macbook since about 2008 and I can basically use 2 applications simultaneously but more than that, it crashes. That's fine since I can use my iPad for other things I need to do while using the MB.

I mainly use my MB to:watch Netflix (though the speed gets weird and freezes at times)

iTunes (with external HD)

Word

Aperture

To do the same functions, would it be silly to expect a Macbook Air could last 5 years and not be painfully slow by the end of that time frame?

Friends keep telling me to buy a MB Air, and I'm just not convinced it'll last very long and not slow down so much I dislike using it at all.

Apple TV IP Address curiosity

We just recently got a new and new to us Apple TV which after ten days I've finally got it and all our TV, 5.1 audio receiver, DVD, PVR, iPads and iMacs working as I want just using our single older Logitech Harmony Remote. It would have been much less hassle if the Logitech/Harmony software directions had been more helpful and at least accurate which I finally figured out that it wasn't. :(

During the setup/configuring procedure I discovered that the Apple TV could not be plugged into the audio receiver's switched AC power, as the Apple TV would usually not get a proper IP address from our 2012 Airport Express that's e'net connected to a Shaw modem.

When powering up or restarting the Apple TV it will usually get an IP address that does not work with an address of 192.168.0.1. It takes several ATV and/ or Airport Express tries and restarts to finally get a working address of 10.0.x.x.

So as long as the Apple TV stays plugged into a live AC receptacle and the power doesn't quit, everything is fine for now.

But I'm quite curious to know how and why the Apple TV could be getting such a non-working IP address as 192.168.0.1 when "connecting" to our named Airport Express via a wireless connection, and it was my understanding that the Airport Express usually provides a 10.x.x.x IP range.

It's early, but fresh, local corn is here!!

Yum ... it's the start of fresh corn-on-the-cob time!! :D

It seems a bit early for us to see and get local stuff -- some of our stores have been selling imported stuff from the US, and?, which we've avoided, waiting for the good stuff.

And today, we were rewarded, and at Wal-Mart of all places!!

Went over and expected to see & pay 33 cents/cob (according to their flyer, and a great price when compared to other stores around here charging 77 cents (or more) per cob. Picked up 6 corn and when I went to the check-out was surprised to find the price had been further reduced to 4 cobs/dollar!! Went back and bought 8 more!! ;)

If we can't get through all 14 cobs fresh at this time, I'll 'shave & freeze' some for later.

But at this price, and at this time, I couldn't resist. When it comes to a veggie I (we) really like to eat, it's corn!!
