3rd Party Battery - Macbook

Went to Apple Sunday to see if they had batteries for the A1278 but it's too old. I've worked with much worse cells, but this will be a bit of a FT lap now.

Anyone have any experience, or can vouch for this unit?

Thx!

3 way SSD partition

About to install this 500G SSD in the next few days and will be partitioning the drive -1st time EVAR.

I need 2 partitions for sure but wondering if the 3 might make sense.

1. I used to play around w/ music software, so I wanted to create a partition for that alone. prob like 250-300G

2. Will also create a partition to use to do some dev work. Simple coding with a bit of room for Adobe and a few other apps. idk 125-150G?

3. I want to create a smallish partition to install beta OSs for testing among some other items. But this would be the smallest and least significant of the partitions. The rest.

Are 3 too much?? AM I complicating things for no reason??

any wisdom to best my way before I get this going this week??

Thanks a mil.

Bootable USB Drive

SO I just created what I believe is a USB boot drive as I'll be installing a new HD in a laptop, but I'm uncertain this worked. My drive only has 1.15 on the volume, and that seems low since the docs/posts all seemed to show i should shave a 5G space occupied. Insights?

and this was the command used in Terminal, which seemed to all go according to plan, no idea if it's done though....

Thanks for the wisdom.

Silicone KB cover

Anyone have some experience w/ these??

I have a key - my left ⌘ key - which isn't secure, and i believe the mechanism might be busted. But I thought that I might be able to drop a cover on it and keep it together etc. Does that even make any sense?? Do they feel decent?

But the messy key - despite having one on the right - is totally messing up my work flow. ha.

iTunes now fine

For months, whether before and after updates, I would have to sign off the remote speakers in iTunes than reboot them. I kept thinking the next update would fix the problem. Annoying but I lived with it. As of yesterday they connect fine. I always wait till the computer is finished starting up, then start the the wifi and then iTunes. i have done nothing different nor have there been any recent updates. Nor did I run Disk Utility. Happy but I don't like the mystery!

How to disable Yosemite upgrade message?

Hi All,

I am running 10.8.5

2.66Quad Core Xeon

6GB, 1066DR3

SSD startup disk

My machine is dated, but I very happy with 10.8.5 and see no reason to upgrade just for the sake of updating. Also concerned about yosemite disabling certain programs like iMovieHD that I prefer to use over the newer imovie.

But on the top right of my screen the upgrade message continues to appear. How do I get rid of it? I sometimes swipe it off the screen, but it just comes back.

Why can't Apple just leave me alone???? I prefer my look of icons the way they are with depth. Can't stand the iphone look of flat images on my computer.

Search Problem in an SQL database

Not strictly a Mac issue but I could use some SQL experts to chime in.

I use one of my websites to run an SQL database.

The database is basically an open source SQL database (4images 1.7.7) with a custom template.

The search function usually works very well, however I ran into a snag a few days ago.

Trying to search for LG&B the search cam up with no results even though here are at least a dozen entries with that term in the database.

The problem is that the search term includes the & which one of the special characters used by SQL.

Now, I have a field in that database where I can enter any keywods for the search.

So the question: Can I enter a modified LG&B term in that keyword field that would allow the search to complete successfully?

There has to be some way to do that but searching through google for quite a while brought up nothing.

One suggestion was to place curly brackets around the term, ie {LG&B}, but that didn't work

also tried a backslash before the &, LG\&B and [LG&B}, neither one of those worked.

So - what todo?

Yosemite and Epson printer not communicating

Last night, I finally got around to updating from Mavericks to Yosemite, 10.10.2, on my MacBook Pro 15" 2.2GHz. Everything so far seems to be fine, except that I get "communication error" when I try to print on my Epson CX8400. The Apple App store has no updated Epson drivers waiting to be installed, and the Epson site just sends me to the App store to get the most recent driver. I'm stuck in a loop. I tried uninstalling the printer, with the idea of installing the driver from the App store, but "removing" it in system preferences didn't remove it, and dragging the printer icon from the Library folder to trash (and restarting the computer) hasn't uninstalled it, either.

How can I get the updated driver when Apple appears to be saying I don't need it, and Epson is saying that I do and that I should get it from Apple?

Help, please!

Yup, s;me again, John B

Recently, I've noticed that my Mac pro and monitor (dell U2713 HM )doesn't like to wake up. It will go to sleep, but pressing a key on the keyboard or moving the mouse does nothing. My guess is that the Mac Pro goes to sleep, and the monitor sees that there is no signal, goes into energy saver mode and that's it. I've tried looking around for a fix....nope

The Dock and Quitting Apps

Not sure if this is an issue that others get frustrated with but I do. When right clicking a running app in the Dock, the only option I get for quitting is Force Quit. When clicking on the app to bring it to the front, I can then right click and then quit or quit from the Apple Menu. I've noticed this behaviour for quite some time but I'm not sure if it began in Yosemite or not. Anyone else having this issue?

President "Pepe" - an interview

He's no longer President, elected prior to the end of his term and now serving in the Senate. This is an interview he did shortly before leaving office.
José Alberto "Pepe" Mujica Cordano (born 20 May 1935) is a Uruguayan politician who was President of Uruguay between 2010 and 2015. A former urban guerrilla fighter with the Tupamaros, he was imprisoned for 13 years during the military dictatorship in the 1970s and 1980s. A member of the Broad Front coalition of left-wing parties, Mujica was Minister of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries from 2005 to 2008 and a Senator afterwards. As the candidate of the Broad Front, he won the 2009 presidential election and took office as President on 1 March 2010.

He has been described as "the world's 'humblest' president", due to his austere lifestyle and his donation of around 90 percent of his $12,000 (£7,500) monthly salary to charities that benefit poor people and small entrepreneurs. (Wikipedia)

An Interview with Uruguay's José Mujica: From Armed Struggle to the Presidency

Quote:

It’s worth fighting for people to have a bit more food, a better roof over their heads, better health, better education, and to be able to spend their days on this earth the best they can. So nothing is more beautiful, more precious than life… And that’s true under capitalism, it was so under feudalism, and it was also true for primitive man… and it will continue to be so under socialism. There’s nothing like life…That’s what we learned in those years, that life itself is the main value, and in any case the second value is society.

That’s why now we go more slowly, but firmly, trying to fortify the transformations that are relevant; slowly, because they need to be consensual; and not so definitive, because death is really the only thing definitive…

Quote:

Yesterday I hurt myself with some pliers right here (he points to a scab on the tip of his nose) twisting some wire (laughter). I’m President of the Republic, sure, but I was running around on the tractor breaking ground over there, came home a total mess, took a bath, cleaned up my nose and straightened myself out a bit…

I know those are small details for most people, but for me they’re essential; I can’t live any other way… Other people have their own ways; fine, that’s the beauty of human freedom, everybody needs to have the time, at least some time set aside to do things they feel motivated to do. That’s true liberty; it’s such a grandiose word, so French, it has to be brought down to earth…

Quote:

Some people say that I’m a “poor” President, but in reality I just have a simple lifestyle. I get by with little, keep my bags light on purpose, it’s a choice. Why? To have the free time and be able to spend it on the things that truly motivate me. If I spend all my effort making money, then I’ll have to constantly run around anxiously looking after it; worrying if someone’s going to steal from me here or screw me over later and so on, and all the while I’m taking time out of my life –time that you can’t buy – on things that don’t motivate me. For some maybe that is a motivation; there again, that’s freedom for them, there has to be a margin of free choice… I’m not arguing for a State or a society where everything is regulated either: you wear a coat and tie if you want, or wear… just whatever you like! Do as you wish, as long as you don’t offend anyone… Maybe I’m part anarchist after all…

Garage Band audio input

There is no mini-stereo input on this new MBP. Too bad because my old MB had one and it was very handy for connecting to my music workstation (Korg Triton Extreme). Double 1/4 phono line out from Korg to mini-stereo input and Garage Band. I took a quick look at GB and it appears to prefer mike input. Not suitable for Korg info.

What input will it be best to use now? The Korg has USB A and B ports. A is good for data transmission and B can accommodate midi in and out. It also has S/P DIF in and out ports, plus a range of 1/4" phono outputs.

I use Garage Band for adding live vocal and woodwind tracks either through the built-in (very good) or other mike and for arranging and producing mainly mp3 files now.

Can I just download Yosemite without it auto-installing?

I was thinking of setting up Yosemite in a Parallels virtual machine to check it out without giving up Mavericks as my primary OS just yet.

From the Mac Store, can I just click on the Yosemite app and it will ONLY download the installer, or will it auto-install it too?

I obviously don't want to try this to find out it auto-installs, again I want to test it out first in a VM.

Mind mapping software

Hi

Has anyone used any free mind mapping programs that you like and would recommend?

I was looking at Freemind and started to download it. But it was going to be a longish download with 195 mb. For some reason that seemed too big and I stopped it. I have heard that some free software comes with "extras" you might not want. Am I just being over cautious??

Instead of free, are purchased ones better?

getting stuff together on my new Mac Pro

hi-de-ho, everyone here at ehMac. I finally got my Beastie up and going. She might have a few scratches n' scrapes and her back end ain't what she used to be (who's is, right-I just stuck a small tile underneath and that seems to have done it)

In order to get this started, I migrated some of my stuff (the most basic stuff I could) from my time capsule backup, to an SSD. Then I put in my other hard drives, so far so good. Drive 1 and 2 are okay. However, the "Macintosh HD" is the SSD, and I'd like it to be Drive 1, and to be able to erase that SSD but I don't think the system will let me. I'd like to transfer all the stuff from SSD to Drive 1 , you see, but this migration has got me in a tizzy..

so, thanks for any help)

Strange Problem trying to safe Apple Mail Messages

I have several thousand Apple Mail messages on an external bootable back up.

Those messages are in a folder in Apple Mail.

I now want to move these messages to another Mac, not necessarily into Apple Mail of that other Mac, just in a folder would be fine.

Both the back up and the other Mac are on Snow Leopard.

If I move one message - grab the subject line with the mouse and drag it into the open USB flash drive window, everything works fine.

The message shows up with the subject title intact and I can open and read the message when double clicking on it.

But when I try to do the same thing with two or more messages at the same time, I cannot drag the messages to move them.

The group of messages will move but I can't drop them into the USB flash drive window.

I'm doing this having booted into the back up and with the USB flash drive on the back up desk top.

Don't understand why one message would move fine but multiple messages won't.

And doing it one message at a time would just take far too long.

Auto Dice Roller in Numbers?

Hello, fellow members. I've just cracked open a new MacBook Air, pretty sweet.

On my MacBook, I have Numbers files with auto dice rolls which randomly change rolls when I press the Delete key. The files which I've now opened and "updated" on the new Air don't change roll values when I hit Delete. Clearly, some functioning or formatting didn't carry over from '09 Numbers to the latest. Can this be salvaged? Thanks. Always grateful for the wealth of expertise on these forums.

Can anyone give an approx value?

I pieced together a MacBook Pro from a few I've picked up for parts over the past couple years. Upgraded the ram and hard drive and threw on a "cover" (to hide the off color spots where stickers used to be). Runs pretty slick now :)

I plan to sell locally, but not sure what to put for a price.

So, here's what I have.

MacBook Pro Mid 2009

13"

Dual core 2.26GHz

*upgraded* 6GB DDR3 1333MHz

*upgraded* 120GB Kingston SSD

Gray Frosted Matte Rubber Coated Hard Shell

Running OSX 10.9.5

There are a few nicks and some off coloring(where stickers used to be)

No idea what the value on it is, can anyone help? Thanks.

Copying and Pasting Files

I'm not sure how most do it for moving files around, but since pre-Yosemite some time, I started using the Command-C and Command-Option-V for that with good results. The file would disappear from it's original folder and be placed in the new folder of choice. I haven't had consistent results as of late. The move works fine but the copy in the original folder, at times, remains, requiring me to manually send it to the trash. Usually, I am moving the file from a folder in my Home folder to another drive on my MBP. To me, this is definitely a bug, if it works sometimes but not others.

RAM upgrade and/or Yosemite install on Mac Mini 2012

Please give me some feedback before I invest in RAM and/or install Yosemite on my Mac Mini (late 2012 2.5GHz) - see specs below. When I first got this Mini, it worked much better than my previous one (early 2009). However, it's starting to slow down significantly again.

The mail problem is opening apps (especially to something like MS Word or MS excel). I also find that when I save something, it takes a long time for the save window to appear to choose the file name or where to save the file. Other tasks that are slow, are switching between screens in iTunes and iPhoto.

I am currently using the main hard drive for most of my functions. However, the iPhoto library is stored on an external USB hard drive (3.5 inch 7200 rpms).

Do you think that a RAM upgrade to 8 or 16 GB will make a significant improvement?

Should I be concerned that upgrading to Yosemite will cause further slowing of my computer?

Thanks for your insights!

Late 2012 iMac Issues

This is kind of difficult to explain so please stay with me.

Recently I've been noticing my mouse jumping around the screen by itself, it was an old Logitech G5 wired mouse. I also noticed when doing basic things like scrolling on webpages that I would get the spinning wheel every so often and it would last for a couple seconds.

I've heard that this could be a failing drive, but things get weirder.

I replaced my old mouse with a new Logitech G502 wired mouse. Installed the additional software (Logitech Gaming Software) to go with it and everything seemed to work fine. After a few days, the bouncing around started happening again. The light on the mouse would turn on and off by itself.

I've tried plugging my mouse in a different port but that didn't seem to fix anything. Right before I wrote this, I plugged my external Seagate HD in to backup and my mouse jumped around worse than it's ever been. Once the harddrive was plugged in long enough and about halfway through the backup, the mouse went back to normal.

This to me sounds like a power issue to the USB ports.

So long story short, to me, this seems like either a hard drive issue or a power issue. I have not tried uninstalling the Logitech software to the G502, I never installed my old mouses software.

I also have a Razer Deathstalker keyboard with Razer's Synapse software installed. But the jumping around happened prior to having both softwares installed so it can't be a software issue.

Sorry for the ramble, hope this is enough information for you.

Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt-HDMI cable

I have an early-2011 15-in. MBP. Last summer when my old CRT TV died, I finally moved on to the modern age of LED TV. Recently I bought a Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt-HDMI cable to hook up the MBP to the TV. I thought I read that such a cable would carry both the video and the audio signal. Once I hooked up the MBP to the TV, there was video but no audio. I ended up using an audio cable too.

Is my Mini DP-HDMI cable an older generation cable that does not carry audio signal? Or my MBP does not have a Thunderbolt port but the older Mini DisplayPort?

Trying to install Windows on a MBP (mid 2012)

Running Yosemite..

I've been messing around with this most of the day and not getting anywhere..

I need Windows (alas..) for a computer based PLC course.

Using Virtual Box and Win XP, many windows that I should get from clicking on a highlighted script from the course only show up 3/4, so I can't read the part that's cut off.

I've been trying to go the Bootcamp way but doesn't look like WinXP can run/be installed with osx 10.10 and Bootcamp.

I've seen elsewhere that by creating a NTFS partition with Disk Utility it's possible but going this way, halfway through the install I get a screen saying the process has been stopped to prevent damage to my computer. Tried over and over with the same results. Tried with a FAT partition, no change.

I have a copy of Win 7 upgrade but after the first re-boot following some install, I just get a blank screen. Again, tried this a # of times without success...

Tried downloading an ISO using the upgrade Key # but MS says that it doesn't work for the language I've chosen. Tried French and English, no luck.

Bootcamp itself doesn't offer much choice: Download Win 7 ISO or Full install.

Should I get the full install Win7 disk?

Any suggestions..?

Options for Long Distance Plan for land line

I'm looking for a lang distance plan for my land line in Quebec.

Currently have $10 unlimited US and Canada long distance and use 1010229 at 2 cents a minute for Europe.

That all works fine but I'm moving away from Bell and I think I might loose their $10 North-American package so I was looking for alternatives.

Last month long distance was just over 1000 minutes - I would need 1500 minutes if not really unlimited.

Also want an arrangement where one doesn't have to dial any special codes - any 1+ call would autoatically go via the US/Canada plan and for Europe and Asia I would continue with 1010229

The companies I came across that offered this were

Telehop, Distributel and Yak

Telehop sounded pretty good at $9.99 per month - I wasready to go with them but then checking tye net I sawone horro story after the next

Distributel is $17.95 plus another 2.95 to not have to dial an access code, so essentially double Telehop's price

Yak I'm not even sure of - their wensite is confusing

Any suggestions, comments, recommendations?

FaceTime for dummies

Okay, so I admit I just don't have a handle on this FaceTime thing.

Please tell me, if 2 Face timers FaceTime, using wifi, will there be a charge on their cell phone bill?

Does one have to have an iphone to FaceTime? For example, a person might have FaceTime on their Mac but an android phone.

Is there any difference financially if one makes a FaceTime call to an email address as opposed to a phone number?

iTunes best audio chain?

I must confess that the migration to pure digital audio slightly does my head in as everybody seems to want to control/tweak the signal...

Here we go - at present I have the following chain:

iTunes (lossless files) -> Ethernet via power line -> Airport Express ->RCA split cable -> Preamp -> Amp -> speakers

So in the current setup, the D/A conversion takes place in the Airport Express.

I have now purchased an external DAC so logic would say to install it as above and to replace the RCA cable with an optical cable between the Airport Express and the DAC. I would also add BitPerfect to control iTunes for good measure. At some stage I might decide to get rid of the preamp altogether, but that's another story...

Here are my specific questions:

1) If I want to use higher sampling files (say 24bit/96kHz) , I know iTunes will accept them but Airport Express has a habit of downsampling files. Would using the AE without its DA action mitigate that? Does it become a passive box?

2) Is there a benefit of bypassing the AE altogether, for example by running a length of cable to use the USB of my DAC? In that case I am likely to need about 2 metres of cable: am I better with long USB/short audio cables or short USB/long audio?

3) More generally, has anybody come across a clear and up to date primer on digital audio: this is like learning a new language!

Thanks!

The new Photos app in Yosemite beta

Hi,

Is anyone here on the Yosemite Beta program using the new Photos app, the replacement for iPhoto?

One thing I noticed was that the Places option was no longer available. I would like to know if that is indeed so or if I am just blind.

If the Places option has been removed, I wonder how else I might search for photos taken in a specific place, or how I would go about assigning a Place to a photo taken with a non-GPS camera (or even a photo someone sent me via email or a text message).

Cheers

Edited to add: And no, the beta is not on my main iMac where I am facing all the issues mentioned in another post. This beta is on the MacBook Pro that is no longer my main machine.

Can't make any sense of Yosemite Finder menu..

OK, maybe I'm missing something here.

I haven't kept in touch with a lot of the changes with the new OS. I'm used to the old Snow Leopard Finder.

Working on my iMovies and can't find where they are kept. I was working on them, saved, did a back up on an external drive but can't get back to saving on the original.

Where's the Movie folder..?

Seems to me the method of having icons on the left side was simple, now there's not much there that lists movies or music..

All folders become non-writable after OS X updates

This is the second time I have faced this issue - the first time after updating to Yosemite and now after every update in Yosemite.

Every folder becomes non-writable. I open Image Capture, and whichever folder I select to save the scan in, it says the folder is non-writable. I am able to create files and folders in any of those folders, but Image Capture alone gives this error.

I repair permissions, there is a shitload of permission issues that are corrected, but the problem never goes away.

I manually Get Info on my home folder and recursively give myself Read-Write rights and still the problem does not go away. However, this exercise of giving myself permissions has resulted in a new issue:

When my wife logged in to her account (both of us have admin accounts), she could not even open Mail because Mail gave her the error that she has no permissions to write to the mail folders.

So, I did a Get Info (using her login) on her home folders and noticed that she had no rights anywhere. I added her ID and gave her Read-Write permissions recursively and now she is able to use her login properly.

My question is, why does almost every major Yosemite update make our folders non-writable or completely **** up the permissions?

And, has anyone else faced this issue or is it just me?

Thanks and cheers

"Reinvented" Mac Book with Retina Display

Apple Introduces A Reinvented MacBook, Starting At $1299 | TechCrunch

I thought I'd open a specific thread on this new MacBook rather than have comments about it buried in the "The store is closed" thread.

For Mac users in my family there are a number of really good things they would appreiate:

Weight vs screen size for one - tried the small MacBook Air - the weight was good but the screen too small; thenwent with a 13-inch MacBook Pro - all pretty good except the weight.

The new MacBook with a 12-inch screen may just be ideal in that sense

Hmmm....just trying to think of a second really positive thing.

What I find disappointing is:

1. The single external port - USB-C is fine, one needs to move forward with technology.

But only a single port? Was there really no room for a second port?

Who wants to carry around an adapter all the time in addition to the power cord.

Sort of defeats the benefit of light weight and size.

I also wonder how well the USB-C port fares as a power port.

Right now on the MacBook Pros the power cord gets knocked out several times a day.

Not an issue - how well will that work with a USB-C port - is it designed to releaseeasily if the cord is pulled and what about the current rating of the contacts when disconnected under full load?

I'm going to sit on the fence on that one for a few months to see what the real life experiences are

Looking for small video camera recommendation

I've been using Mini dv cameras (on my third one now) for the last 10 years in my travels but the the cameras are delicate and the mechanisms eventually wears out or breaks down, and it's harder to find tapes. What would be a good replacement?

I get around by helicopter and transport planes and like to film the action of boarding (holding small backpack in one hand and camera in the other) and the trip itself through the windows, also somewhat discreetly getting footage of the crew and passengers. As well as the camera, I stick a 5th gen iPod shuffle to my vest and "shoot" with that as well.

seems Apple is dumbing down the mac faster than expected.. the push function in Apple mail doesn't work, plus active sync is gone..

so airmail is my best guess for an alternative. I do like the look and feel, it supports push/active sync but the cumbersome to set up, lots of preferences to go through and named so oddly that I had to email them for support for the simplest of questions but they have been happy to answer my questions, but only by emails.

so far so good - once I tweak it to the way I like I will screen capture everything.. only negative is that attachments are treated like files vs if you want to do a blast and drop jpegs in place for a creative email blast. you have to drop all your files at the bottom of the email window which says attachments here.

Pros:

it supports Gmail, active sync, iCloud, IMAP, Exchange, POP

plus you can match up folders with folders that on your server, [ in = in, starred = starred, drafts = drafts etc. ]

MS Office 2016 Beta

I downloaded it to see how it looks, and because it is free. So far it runs, and looks like Office, for good or bad. It comes with new versions of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, and OneNote. It is beta, so don't write the great Canadian novel with it.

The installer didn't create a folder called "Microsoft Office 2016 Preview", it just dumped the apps separately into the Applications folder. Maybe that's all part of being cutting edge beta stuff.

Office 2011 installed its apps into a folder with a custom folder icon. Makes it easier to delete Office when you get sick of it!

Feeling nostalgic - Any hoarders here?

Was out looking for older units. Not so much to collect, but wanted to see what they were going for. Really looking for an older lap running OS9. But i ran into this...

+

Remember these?? Someone is selling all 4 for $300!

If I had a home w/ a basement, i would totally jump on this. Looks like a business is clearing out units. But if you looks closely, you see that Power Computing unit in the back??

Wonder what the story is here....

RAM Question(s)

Haven't had to look into RAM in some time - and it shows. I was researching just a few nights ago as I got my hands on a MacBook 5,1 unibody and plan to ram it to it's max - 8G, and install a SSD. This is meant to hold me down until I figure out what to buy next (MBA or MBP).

So specs say I need to scoop DDR3 1067Mhz RAM. Although present, there isn't tons of choice. all good.

But correct me if i'm wrong. I can go faster speed, but not slower? Could I not go DDR3 1333Mhz in theory??

As well, I have 2 slots. Am I better off w/ a matching 4G pair, or will it read a 8G stick w/ a slot empty?

Plus does anyone had a brand they want to reco?? For the 1st time ever, i was looking at the *apple* brands that retailers want to sell you - esp after reading some tales on line.

Anyhow, thanks for your time.

H!

No MacBook Air refresh chat?

So the evidence is out for a new 13" MBA apparently, which semi caught me off guard. I was so focused on this 12" MBA retina - which they are now saying will drop in June.

That 13" Air is making a better and better case for one of the best all around units.

But back to that 12" retina Air. They also have some leaked pics of a non functional screen. Here, next to a 13" unit.

Monday could be pretty interesting. Kinda glad the 12" might just get delayed until WWDC - as they're now claiming. I just scooped a 13" MBP to hold me down until then. ;)

But the preowned market will see a shakeup. I'm reading about some new price adjustments since the deltas are getting pretty small and insignificant between units. We'll see.

Emails marked as read on iPhone 6

Just set up my new iPhone 6 today. It appears that incoming emails are marked as read by default. Is this normal? Doesn't seem to make sense to me. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

In Defense of Drunk Sex

Language warning.

In Defense of Drunk Sex

Quote:

Because like everything else pleasurable in the 21st century—smoking in a bar, complimenting a lady on her looks, drinking a bucket-sized Coke—drunk sex is under attack from that new caste of killjoys who wouldn't recognize fun if it offered to buy them a drink ("unwanted sexual advance.") Drunk sex is being demonized, even criminalized: turned from something that can be either wonderful or awkward into, effectively, rape.

Further:

Quote:

In essence, this would mean sex becoming default a crime until you, the drunk dude who slept with the drunk girl, can prove that your sex wasn't malevolent. Imagine raising such an idea in the year in which we celebrate the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta, midwife of the presumption of innocence, which for centuries guarded citizens from the whims and prejudices of the mighty state and powerful prosecutors like Ms. Saunders.

Just glad I'm married & went to university in the 80's.

Unbelievable.

Time to start carrying a breathalizer & camera to bed, just to CYA...

Movies not showing on iPad

So I have movies and tv shows I have put on my iPad. Some have been there for a while. I added a new video yesterday and now everything is missing from the iPad except the new video I added. When I look in iTunes it shows the videos that are missing as being there, but they do not show on the iPad. I have synced the iPad and still they do not show. These videos would show under "Home Videos". I have checked every section on the iPad, movies, tv shows, music videos. Nothing. Only my iTunes purchased movies show.

What has happened here? I have restarted iTunes, iPad, iMac. Running latest iOS updates and latest OS X updates (Yosemite).

unmounted USB drive leaves an empty folder in /Volumes

Anyone has seen this happening?

It's always my USB drive that holds my iTunes library that does that. Every once in a blue, it creates an empty folder inside /Volumes so references to the path in some apps become broken as the drive is now mounted as /Volumes/USB 1 instead of /Volumes/USB.

My drive is a WD My Passport Ultra 1TB btw...

Keychain access?

Being somewhat new to my Macbook Pro, is there a reason (such as with this forum) why my information when logging in here isn't stored (or asked for) within my Keychain Access, as it is for some other forums? I'm not sure if the information can be stored manually, or what it is that catches the Keychain access to store the information, but I've been finding lately that it doesn't for some forums?

Any advice on how to get this to work for basically all forums and social media type programs? I does work for Facebook....so what is the difference between FB and forums?

Thanks in advance!

Macbook Pro mail uploading only headers no body?

Currently running Macbook Pro 15" - 16 Ram 512 SSD I7 Retina Display. Yosemite 10.10.2 OS.

Didn't have this issue, prior to updating to Yosemite, albeit, it worked fine for quite some time in Yosemite, but now is giving me an issue I'd like to resolve. I was one of the one's that had 'internet' issues, but that now seems to be working fine after going through weeks of what seem like known issues, which on forums and Apple I was able to resolve thankfully.

Now my main issue is when I open my Mac Mail, the headers all download fine (show up on the left side of the Mail program fine) but they are 'empty'...void of any body in the actual e-mail. My only fix to this (for now) is to quickly quit the Mail application, and click on the mail Icon again, where then the header and body of all the downloaded e-mails are then able to read, or basically then on the second opening of the Mail application, both the header and body are useable. This has been going on now for a few weeks, and I'd truly like to resolve the frustration of opening and closing...then opening again to be able to read my e-mails.

I personally believe it must have to do with the Yosemite upgrade, but it doesn't seem to be prevalent to everyone, or a persistent issue with help either.

I'm hoping some folks may have some advice on how to get my Mail working as it once did? I have no idea what made it go from working fine, to what I have now either?

Thanks in advance!
