iPad Pro, built-in storage

Does it cost me to get more storage for the new iPad Pro?
I want the maximum storage option and is there any way to pay little for the capacity expansion? Or would it be more reasonable to buy external devices like a hard drive?
Please help me....

Movaje installer

Hi,
I'm trying to get the Mojave installer from the app store with out any success. In the search I type in the os name and no Mojave installer appears. I tried the link from Apple support and I have to provide an app to get it from the app store. I tried various apps but nothing happens. The installer I had had expired.
I want to install it on an external HD.

Thanks,
Sonny

Catalina: Fonts you didn't know you had (access to)

The awesome Mac OS Catalina fonts you didn’t know you had access top
Apple has recently licensed fonts from type foundries such as Commercial Type, Klim Type Foundry and Mark Simonson Studio to be used as system fonts on Mac OS Catalina. But since these fonts are an optional download, many users of Mac OS X are not even aware they have access to them for free.

To see and install these optional fonts, open the FontBook application and switch to “All Fonts”. Browse the font list and you will see lots of font families that are greyed out—either because they were deactivated or they weren’t downloaded yet. If you right-click on a font or font family that wasn’t downloaded yet, you see an option to download the individual font or entire family.

* * *

In addition to those Latin fonts, many non-latin fonts are available as well. For a complete list check out this support document.

VLC 3.0.10 vs MacOS 10.13.6

I've used VLC as my go-to for ALL my music & video files. This new version, 3.0.10, is the only one which ever gave me trouble.

Probably a software conflict. But VLC hangs my MacOS 10.13.6 every single time, requiring a hard restart.

Of course, tried all the usual tricks. No cigar!

Nope, I'm not giving up on a real Mac OS!

Ideas? TIA!

iMac Data Recovery

Hi, mates! I'm new here. I hope I am posting at the right forum.

You see, while working from home this quarantine, I've accidentally/mistakenly deleted some important docs and emptied my iMac Trash. I tried searching for the said files but I could no longer see them. Is there a way to still retrieve them? Googled some remedies and found this specific link to recover files from iMac but I'm not yet sure. Any feedback?

Your suggestions are very much welcome. Thanks in advance! :)

mac mini

Recently I posted a question re buying a new 21.5 Imac. I have decided to wait until June to see whether Apple refreshes them. Anyway, seeing the post re the mac mini I am now questioning whether I should purchase the 3.6 Quad core with 512g ssd, keyboard and mouse and of course a monitor. There are several monitors compatible with the mini and I was wondering whether someone could recommend a model, preferable around 23".
Also, which Ethernet should I get? We have Telus optic TV, netflex and 2nd gen Apple tv. We don't play games.
There seems to be only two usb 3 ports, I suppose I can add third party ports if needed.
Anyway another option to consider should Apple increases the prices on the Imacs.

Thanks
Sonny

Apple TV - 4K Problems

Apple TV (4K, model A1842) - Recent refurb purchase ( Mid April)

Problem: ATV does not display all episodes of any TV Show from locally stored iTunes library.
It will stream programs from Apple TV +

Process:
ATV home screen > Computer > Local iTunes Library > TV Shows
Selecting a TV show
Several episodes will be displayed across the screen.
This appears to be a random selection of SOME of the total number of episodes available for any particular TV Show (for example 7 out of 65 available) Text below each icon displays duration (time), not title or description.

A button labeled “Season” is displayed, click on this does not show a choice of season, sometimes just takes you to the first episode displayed on the above list.

I have yet to find a means of selecting all episodes of any TV Show.

I am very annoyed to discover that my new, more advance & $$$, ATV will not do what I could do with my previous/older 2nd Gen. ATV. (Which still works)

My iTunes (12.8.2.3 ) Library is located on an external HD, consisting of recorded OTA programs and purchased shows from Apple. All accessible from desktop iMac or ATV Gen.2, without problems. Home Sharing is on, works fine!

ATV connected via ethernet cable, HDMI to older large screen TV.

Computer: mid 2010 27” iMac, OSX 10.12.6

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has encountered this problem - and found a solution/workaround. All suggestions accepted

Inexpensive Bluetooth Speaker for iMac

I may have mentioned this is another thread... for some time I've been looking for a cheap BT speaker to use in our room to provide audio streamed from my iMac on family movie night, when we'd rather not disturb others in our home.

I've purchased (and returned) at least five of these things over the past year, in various shapes and from different brands. On the weekend I came across the Moodlab Mini BT Speaker at the Dollar Store...for $4. How can you go wrong? Of course I picked one up, expecting it to be as useless as the others I'd tried.

(Audiophiles should stop here, since this product is definitely not for you!)

This is the first one that would pair with my iMac (the others all paired with our iPhones and Android phones, but never with the Mac). Works exactly as advertised, easy to pair / charge.

Haven't tried out the TF card slot or USB slot, both of which are for playing music saved on a card or memory stick. We just used it to watch a film, and it served its purpose. Not amazing audio by any means, but a helpful addition for localized sound.

It also claims to allow you to make / answer calls on your smartphone (I wonder about on my Mac? Hmmm). Feature not tested yet.

My only issue with this thing (and hey, at $4, it's hard to have any issues with it) is the inability to turn off the flashing LED ring. In a dark room especially, it's distracting. Next time we'll set it behind our heads. The LED ring doesn't flash in any obvious pattern - nor does it follow the decibels of the audio signal (which might make it less annoying). All in all, I'd definitely recommend.

To see it in action, check out this kid's review of the device.

They come in a variety of colours. Mine is gold & black. Here's another colour:

Most posts line lengths no longer wrapping correctly

For the last little while, regardless of browser used to check, it seems that most posts with long sentences are no longer wrapping as they used to do.

Most long sentences now consist of about 133± characters and then wrap about that point So any such window must be left wide enough to accommodate that line length.

Previously, most posts consisted of maximum line length about 83 characters, and would wrap accordingly if a window was made narrower or even wider.

All other vBulletin listserve sites I use have their posted text wrapping automatically and correctly to the veritable window width one wants to use.

Is it possible for the ehmac.com site Admins to reinstate the proper automatic width-wrapping text that used to exist here???

As it is working now, I need to have the window almost full-screen (for width) size In order to read a single long line which I really do not prefer.

I don't know if any of the Administrators are working these days in order to make any changes.

Thanks,
Patrick

Looking for tablet recommendations

I'm looking for recommendations for a simple drawing tablet. It would mostly be used for writing on .pdf and .pptx files and working with Notebook while I'm doing screen capturing with QuickTime Player.

I have no idea what's out there and what will work well with my 2013 MacBook Air running Sierra, which is why I'm posting here.

Price is important but compatibility is more important.

Thanks for your help.

iPad and stupid Apple

I'm so frustrated!

// start rant!

So we're in isolation with 2 young kids at home. We have 2 iPad Pro 12.9"'s that my wife and I use for entertainment for ourselves (I use mine for work when I meet with clients, however that hasn't happened in nearly 9+ weeks now).

Our kids have anywhere from 6-8 zoom meetings a day for their classes. They're too young to give our spare MBP to, and they can navigate the ipad easily.

We've setup a screen with the kids apps, so they can get in there and do what they want, and I've setup screen time to limit the time they spend on Youtube Kids and Netflix, and prevent purchases if they're playing any game that we put on there that might have an in-app purchase.

My issue is that there are email, facebook, linkedin, our zoom meetings and chats that pop up on the tablets. We want to prevent the kids from getting into there, however stupid Apple made stupid iOS so that there aren't profiles, so we can't limit them to just some specific apps. ARGH!

I don't want to shell out insane money to even get used or refurb'd ipads. I paid well over $3k for these!

// end rant

Printer cartridges?

Hi,
I have an HP Colour Laserjet M254dw, and usually buy OEM cartridges from Cendirect. However, I recently learned (from the MacSupportCentral list) that there are some high-quality compatible cartridges, particularly those sold by Carrot Ink. However, Carrot Ink only ships to the United States. Does anyone know a good supplier in Canada?

Cheers
Madeline

Set shortcut for "full screen" space?

Hey all,

I have shortcuts set up for spaces 1 through 5 in Mission Control which streamlines my workday immensely. I have a separate space for Chrome, which I sometimes set to go full screen, but when I do so, it creates a new "full screen" space that I don't have a shortcut for. I can't seem to find a way to create one either. Anyone know how?
