SSD failing?

I use the nifty third-part menubar appl SMARTReporter. It's telling me every few weeks that I drop a percentage point in performance (see screenshot).

iPad Pro M1 and Apple Pencil Generation 1

According to the Apple website, the new iPad Pros being released tomorrow are compatible with the Apple Pencil generation 2. Nothing is said about the 1st gen. Am I correct in assuming that my Apple Pencil (actually the refresh version of gen 1) won't work?

Changing Apple ID?

LOVE the new look for the forum!
My sister (not tech savvy at all), her husband just passed away. He had the 2013 Mac Air set up with his ID, hadn't upgraded his laptop from OS X Mavericks. I can't get into his ID because it asks to verify with a text code, and she cancelled his phone. How do I help her change to her ID so she can access the App Store?
It's weird. She can access the App Store on her iPhone with her own ID. But not on the laptop.

Unwanted Contextual Menus.

So El Capitan, 2011 MBPro. More often than not, left clicking on icons or the desktop brings up a contextual menu. How do I squash this bug?

Started quite recently across multiple user accounts. No recent software updates!
Possibly bad mouse? Using Logitech 2 button wired mouse.

Also wondering if Xtra-finder could be at fault but have used it for several years with no issues. Unfortunately there is no off button for XtraFinder, you have to uninstall.

unknown error occurred -50

Just downloaded the latest update for my iPad and, when trying to initiate the update, all I'm getting is "An unknown error occurred -50."

Corrupt download? It looks complete in my iPad software update folder.

Upgrade 10.6.8 to Mavericks

Hello al
I have read previous threads here on this topic and while they are old - latest I saw 2015 - I think an upgrade to Mavericks is what I want to try on a MB originally running 10.4 and now running 10.6.8 . 3GB RAM. The main reason is I can't install adblockers on my versions of Safari and Firefox to protect this MB from grandchild predation. And I can't upgrade them on anything older than 10.9.

Where can I get a reliable version of Mavericks for download? Appstore is no longer...

"Safari" I'm sorry safari can't open the page

WHY NOT???? Why Safari...WHY can't you open the page? How hard is it for apple to create a browser that works? Why do I have to keep reverting to google chrome or firefox or opera to visit sites? I use safari for the ease of use, cross platforms, I can on version of OS, I can be at home or at work....passwords all saved...

Mail disappearing from Apple Mail

Hello,

I booked my Cover-19 vaccination and got the confirmatory email on April 7th in my iCloud account.

I flagged it and went to print it today as a back-up.

But it wasn’t there. I searched for it and there was nothing. I checked iCloud but no luck.

I rushed downstairs to my MacBook Air and opened Mail. There it was! I made a PDF and went to print it out when Mail crashed.

When I re-opened Mail the message seemed to vanish before my eyes. I did a few searches but no cigar.

Languages change over time, and so do the rules of those languages. I was wondering what rules eMac'ers would change in the English language if they could write new rules.

As an example, I would change all the rules with the verb Be, no more I am, He or she is, they are etc... it would be I be working, she be here, they be there...

Duel Screen Issues

I am running 11.2.3
3.6 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i3
8 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

Displays both are BenQ GW2480 23.5"

When I first 'wake up' the mini, one display starts first...the one that asks me for my login there is a huge delay before it appears.

Second issue, when I'm scrolling with my mouse, when I get to the point of crossing from one screen to the next, the cursor does not move. It gets stuck. I have whip the mouse back and forth before it gets through...

mail disappearing from mac mail

I just opened my mail and I know I had messages dated the 11th (yesterday) but all that are showing today are emails up to the 7th. I'm sure I've had this before but I know for sure this time!

What's happening that an email is there yesterday and gone today when I haven't done anything but open and close the program?

I'm getting tired of thinking I'm going crazy with this. And, there's nothing in my "recovered" box.

Where the F is that file?!?

If I have a BIGGEST complaint about Mac, it's Spotlight search. I enter the precise name of the file I'm looking for &, if I'm lucky, I get back a huge list of, say, ~700 completely irrelevant results. Sometimes I put the name in quotes--doesn't help.

If I'm unlucky, I get this! Can't open any of these categories by clicking on them even though I know precisely what kind of file I'm looking for:

Anyone use the new Canada Revenue Agency “Auto-fill my return” service

Just wondering if anyone managed to use the new “Auto-fill my return” service successfully with their income tax software this year???

I'm far from impressed and now it seems I have to start over again, at least using the TaxFreeway for Mac 2015 software, as the auto-fill just duplicated and in some cases triplicated some of my forms with my pension amounts, and even one with zero data included.

Complete waste of time IMHO!!!

I hope others had better success but sure not impressed here.

Upgading OS on Old MacMini

Macmini4,1 2009/2010ish running 10.6.8

A friend of mine who has lost his job during Covid, did not replace his Mac when the hard drive failed a year or 2 ago.
I have an old Macmini still running Snowleopard. Short story, I stopped upgrading when the new OS's would stop running the games that my kids loved at the time. Anyway, old mac memory has faded from lack of use and Apple has long stopped supporting old Tech.

Google has told me that Mavericks is the latest OS I can run on this...
