Happy First Immigrants Grievance and Perpetual Victimhood Day!

How many wells & water treatment plants could have been constructed for $610 million? How many promises to the First Immigrants have the Lieberals broken over the decades? How many hundreds of billions of $$$ have been given to the First Immigrants already, only to see little to none of that trickle down to the people who actually need it because there is no accountability neither in their higher echelons nor the gov't?

Mac Mail window missing + can't quit

Hi,
[problem seems solved by a Force Quit]

I did "something" ...closed a window and now there is nothing when I open the Mail. It has the Mail upper menu going across the screen as normal but there is not usual window with the emails in it.

I can click on Message Viewer under the Window drop down menu but when I click to open an email, a pop up comes up but is blank. When I close the pop up, the whole window closes and I'm back looking at my desktop with the Mail menu just along the top. I...

mac-torrent-download

I presume many on our board are familiar with this dot-net website. Unfortunately, sometime in the past year, MacOS' new security 'features' make d/ling its content impossible.

Doesn't work on 10.13 or 10.12. i'm hoping someone here is running an OS older than these to see if they can get any successful d/l.

I've been using M-T-D for a really long time to keep all my third party software updated.

TIA!

Greatest trick for unclogging a toilet EVER? I think so.

Just Google "How to unclog a toilet without a plunger" and you'll see this same tip/trick posted on a variety of sites including Youtube.

My own personal experience involved my oldest son jamming up the plumbing with what was likely a very liberal amount of moon wipe. Yes, that's toilet paper. I went at the clogged fixture with my trusty plunger believing it'd be only a matter of time. After-all, I've never failed before. After several attempts over an hour I did nothing but fail. So...

iMac and eGPU?

We have a 5K iMac here at work that is showing signs of a bad graphics card. It is outside of warranty. Rather then just completely replace it I had an idea about trying an external graphics card. I have never used one before, would this over ride the graphics card in the iMac and run everything through this and potentially solve the graphics card issue?

MS Office Single License (Not subscription)

Hi All,

I'm running 11.4 Big Sur. I downloaded from the App Store The office suit. But expiry has ended and now the only way to activate this is by Subscription (which I refuse).

Is there a way to purchase a single user license? I've been looking but I keep coming up short.

Any suggestions would be welcome

Can anyone explain why my MBP died and came back?

The other day, my MBP died....just turned off....nothing working....I was on word and it just shut down. I tried pressing the power button, nothing worked. I thought it had died...after 14 years, a pretty good run.

And now, out of curiosity I just tried it and it turned on.

Can anyone explain what might have happened? Did it over heat and a safety turn on to shut it down? Its a 2007 MBP A1151. One of the best laptops apple has ever made (in my humble opinion)

Tivoli Model Two stereo radio + Subwoofer

Sold!

I have a Tivoli Model Two stereo radio plus the matching Model Subwoofer for sale. These make an excellent mini-system for a bedroom, den, office, or kitchen. It has an auxiliary input so you can connect an additional audio source like an iPod or iPhone. The units have the cherry wood case with dark taupe faceplates. They are in excellent, as new condition, and I'll include a good quality connector for the sub. I have the owner's manual but no longer have the boxes. I was using...

The Science thread

From time to time I run across a science article which doesn't fit very well into existing threads and it seems a waste to start a new thread each time for a few posts.

As such, here's a new thread for the science articles you aren't able to categorize otherwise.

I'd also like to leave the false gods of AGW out of here, thankyouverymuch.

icloud question re storage there vs on laptop

Hi,

I'm helping a friend with his computer but his is newer than mine and has icloud. He's having trouble figuring out the filing system and is not techie! ICloud is new for me as I'm still using a 2014 MBP with OS Mojave. I've been watching videos about it but I still have questions that I'm hoping someone might be able to help with.

My friend has the check mark beside Documents and Desktop in System Prefs: iCloud so they appear in the Finder sidebar under iCloud. The thing is the...

Electric Car = Bad Idea

Is it just me or are electric cars a bad idea; I mean plug in the wall fully electric cars like GM is pursuing...think it's called the volt. This car does have the ability to charge on fuel but cann plug into a 110-volt outlet.

With energy crisis an everyday phrase, how is this anywhere near a good idea? Will it actually offset the cost of refining fuel if people are using less fuel? Doubt it, doubt it woud make a dent in fuel consumption unless all vehicles on the road make this change...

Display Too Dark

I'm on a MacBook Pro late 2013 running OS 10.15. For some time now the display has been very dark, making it impossible to watch most movies, etc. Things like YouTube vids are usually okay but movies on Netflix, e.g. are just too dark to watch. I have brightness on full and I've diddled around with the display profile but nothing helps.

I've just compared the same movie scene on my MacBook and on my iPad and the difference is night and day (no pun intended). Is there anything I can...

iCloud storage of zip files

I have made a demo time-lapse movie for a friend. The QuickTime movie is way too large to be sent via email even after compressing it in a zip package. I have been using the online storage QDrive for such a distribution, but the service is unreliable and goes down often.

Could I use iCloud for this purpose? It appears that Apple restricts its use to store stuff that you purchase through the App Store and iTunes store, and not other stuff.

joke of the day thread

A guy calls a company and orders their 5-day, 5kg weight loss program.

The next day, there's a knock on the door and there stands before him a voluptuous, athletic, 19 year old babe dressed in nothing but a pair of Nike running shoes and a sign around her neck..

She introduces herself as a representative of the weight loss company. The sign reads, "If you can catch me, you can have me."

Without a second thought, he takes off after her. A few miles later puffing and puffing, he finally...

IMac Vs Canoscan LIDE400

We just changed from Macbooks to IMacs and so far peripherals apparently have an allegiance to their old hardware. I'm kind of frustrated - I figured out how to get the HP printer to work now that it is hardwired - and no longer wi-fi. (We've gone back to the 70s with our new wifi - and internet too - where we have moved to.

But I can't figure out how to get the scanner to work. It will scan - but only on the photo setting - and insists on putting the scanned item into the 'pictures' file...

Accidental drop of HDD while connected to Macbook Pro

I had an external magnetic hard drive hooked up to my old 2007 MBP with the notebook sitting on my lap in the living room. I was watching TV at the time while transferring some video files to the external HDD. I watched more TV for some more minutes then decided to take a washroom break. I forgot that the external HDD was still connected. As soon I moved the MBP to the side, the USB cable dragged the external HDD along and the enclosure dropped to the carpet. Uh oh. The external HDD...

Hi folks it's been a while since I've been on, life you know. I was hoping to get some help if I could.

Mail Search Broken

Since updating to Big Sur 11.5.2 (I was on Big Sur before, just an earlier iteration), my Apple Mail's search functionality keeps breaking repeatedly.

Here's the pattern:

I restart my computer and the search works fine. 10 mins later, it spontaneously breaks and won't find any search results for emails I know exist. I restart again and it works again for 10 mins. Rinse and repeat.

How can I figure out what's happening in that 10 mins that causes it to fail?
