Vancouver shooting sends upscale neighbourhood into chaos, as police chase 61-year-old suspect along seaside

After a shooting in downtown Vancouver left one man critically injured outside a Starbucks, police chased an elderly suspect along the seaside and exchanged gunfire with him near a children’s science centre. A male victim — reportedly the owner of a nearby bike shop — lay on his back with a pool of blood beneath him outside the Starbucks around 11 a.m. in the upscale Yaletown district, with stunned baristas and passersby huddled around.

Police caught up to the man outside Science World, about a 20-minute walk away from the Starbucks shooting scene. During the ensuing firefight, terrified Science World guests were told to lay flat on the floor. A female officer was injured by glass from the windshield of her cruiser during the melee. The shooter, who police said was a 61-year-old male, was also wounded and taken to hospital where he was in stable condition.
