Accessing documents from old iCloud hassle

I guess there won't be much if any improvement to using and accessing files from iCloud since Apple is now focusing on iCloud Drive and Yosemite etc.

Using supported applications with Mavericks to save any file to one's iCloud works nicely, with a handy iCloud option available.

But when it comes to accessing them, I think Apple missed the mark by a long shot.

If one has Saved to somewhere other than the iCloud option, it's no longer available as a choice when Opening some file that was saved to the iCloud, at least without having to find out how and then opening it from the folder that's buried in the bowels of one's Mac in the ~/Library/Mobile Documents folder.

At least there are some suggestions at:

How to access iCloud files from your Mac | Macworld

and

How to Access iCloud Documents From the Mac OS X Finder | OSXDaily

But geese Apple, even an install of Dropbox and Google Drive put an option next to the Save and Open windows. Why not one for TextEdit documents etc.

I think I'll just use Dropbox and Google Drive, sure a lot less hassle opening a saved "cloud" document, unless I'm missing something obvious.
