Using iMessage in the U-S?

Hope to get some guidance here. I've always received top-notch answers here, so I'll try yet again.
I'm travelling through the U-S in a couple of days. Would I be correct in assuming that I can communicate with my family through iMessages (on my iPhone) to/from their iPhones without massive charges? Is this roaming? Or long distance stuff? Cellular data? Sorry for what might be dumb queries. I don't want any surprises. Don't need to call back and forth, just messages and FT.

My family has / had two members serve in the RCMP. But every bloody time the RCMP shows up in the news in recent years, it's not for any kind of service that reflects well on the uniform.... WTH, BC RCMP?

Coquitlam RCMP investigating after 2 seniors dragged down stairs by officers

Coquitlam, B.C., police are investigating after a condo annual general meeting that had "gotten out of hand" culminated with RCMP officers dragging two senior citizens down a flight of stairs.

Police were called around 10:32 p.m. and told people were fighting at the meeting held at the Best Western on North Road Thursday evening.

When RCMP officers arrived, the meeting was shut down, but an elderly couple allegedly refused to leave the area.

Video shows the couple appearing to resist attempts to arrest them and subsequently being dragged down a flight of stairs to the hotel's front entrance.

The video also shows a young child, identified as the couple's grandchild, screaming, pleading with police and occasionally flailing at one of the officers.

Myung Ju Lee described in blunt terms the treatment he received from police.

"He grabbed my arm, twisted it, put it behind my back, then kicked me [down the stairs] from the second floor," he said.

"They pushed and kicked, and I rolled down, down, down ... Then he came down, pushed my chest using the knee. Several times.

"'Are you trying to kill me? Are you trying to kill me?'", I shouted," Ju Lee continued.

"And finally, at the bottom of the stairs, I was handcuffed. 'I'm not a criminal. I'm not a criminal ... I'm a senior. Why do you have me in handcuffs?'' I kept asking. They would not answer."

Ju Lee had a bruise on his cheek, while his wife had scrapes along her back. Both spent the night in hospital, and say they're shocked and angry at what happened.

Victor Kim, a condo owner in the strata, said he was motivated to film the incident because of how poorly he thought police were treating the couple.

"They're in their eighties. Grandparents. They shouldn't have handled it that way," he said.

The worst GD search function in the world...

I know everyone here knows this but ehMac is in the dinosaur age when it comes to its search function. It is basically useless. I didn't need it much before when I was around here all the time, but now that I have been away for a while I find myself needing it and it is chite.

After selling my extra Mini, I'm continuing the simplification of my computing arrangements. Running of both an iMac and MacBook is becoming more pain than gain, so I'm going to return to the laptop+external monitor system that had previously worked well for me. Perhaps I'll get one of the new MBPs.

So I'm putting the iMac up for sale. This is almost the highest-end iMac of its generation. It has the top processor upgrade, the top graphics upgrade and the 1TB fusion drive.

Full specs:

-Intel core i7 4.0 Ghz CPU with turbo boost to 4.4 GHz (only available at a BTO upgrade)

Entourage root certificate error

I know I should probably change things, but I still use Sympatico for email and Entourage as the email client. But now, when I open it, I'm getting an error message regarding the root certificate. The link in the error message itself goes nowhere. Does anyone here know how I can fix this? I'm attaching a screenshot of the error message.

Workaround - Camera not mounting in El Capitan

I thought I should mention this just incase anyone else here is having a problem connecting their camera with El Capitan, I’ve found a workaround - sort of!

Since I’ve installed El Capitan I’ve been unable to connect my Minolta Dimage to my 2010 iMac. If I switch back to Snow Leopard (10.6.8), No problem, camera mounts and I can transfer photos easily.

With El Capitan - no way. I tried different USB ports, iPhoto, Photo, Bridge (CS3), Image Capture, reset PRAM - nothing worked. Searched online - lots of complaints about cameras and/or SD cards not showing up on the desktop, lots of suggestions, but no solution. Apparently Apple has “improved” USB.

In desperation I tried the USB ports on my Cinema Display and BINGO! they worked!

Can transfer photos without having to reboot into Snow Leopard.

Not a perfect solution but good enough for me.

Notifications Not Working on Apple Watch with Apple Pay On

After I set up Apple Pay on my Apple Watch, I'm no longer receiving any notifications whatsoever.

Anyone know how to fix this? I'm currently erasing and setting it up as a new watch, which means I'll have to call my credit card company to verify the card again... hopefully a reset will fix it, otherwise this is f'd up.

I read a few posts, one says turn of activation lock, but if I do that, it removes all cards from Apple Pay.. so that kind of defeats the purpose.

EDIT: I just read on Apple's website that the little blue lock icon isn't supposed to show up when I'm wearing the watch.. only when I'm not wearing it, or when it's charging. So that's messed up. Faulty sensor??

I recently upgrade to the iPhone 7 Plus. I restored the phone using a back up from my old phone but now it seems that half my music is missing its artwork. I tried deleting everything and syncing again but I'm still having the same problem.

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's driving me crazy.

Time Machine and Crucial Emails

Our 2009 iMac HD is dying and I have purchased a SSD drive to replace it. I have plugged a usb HD into my iMac and have ran time machine to backup the computer. Now before I attempt the new drive install I had a few questions I was hoping someone could help me with. Will time machine restore everything? all my emails etc?

Is there a app to save all my email content? I can not lose the email stuff...... thanks in advance!

iOS 10 & iCloud no longer pushes emails to phone

so ever since iOS 10 has been out and installed on my wife's iphone - she no longer receives emails as they arrive - she receives emails in bursts - hours apart, or if she manually opens her mail app.

I verified all her settings, erased network settings also went as far as buying a new iPhone for myself, reformatting my old iPhone for and same issue, but the exchange account still functions.

a quick fix was to toggle the notification settings for mail - which functioned for about an hour then it stopped again - pushing iCloud..

So I finally decided to forward my wife's emails to her private domain on our exchange servers which still work. - but apple's forwarding setting in icloud.com - fails, as it is an open relay rather than a proper email forward - which tier 2 was upset/shocked to find out, as hotmail, gmail and our private servers don't allow relaying..

the work around was to create rules.. and they seem to work, until iOS team patches the server and iOS push issue.. I was fortunate enough to have a staff member from apple who was on the dev team working on 10.1 to work with me.. below i have screen captures how to do a quick fix for forwarding and links to the other users having the same problem.

apple pay question

I have a new iPhone 7 plus that I received today that is replacing my iPhone 6 plus. I had never setup the Apple Pay on my 6 because the main iCloud I have is one through work, keeps all my contacts, safari and everything else synced. But my personal iCloud is different and use it for Apps, iTunes, etc. Now I thought I would start fresh rather then restore from a backup. I went through and set up my personal iCloud first and then Apple Pay for both debit and credit cards. Worked great, nice and easy. Then I thought I could log out of iCloud and into iCloud for work and keep the apple pay. Seems that is not the case.

Is there a way to have Apple Pay on a different iCloud address then the one setup under iCloud in settings? If not and I add my visa and debit with my work iCloud logged in, does anyone else have access to my visa and debit on computers using the same iCloud account? Or does it stay on the phone itself only?

Sierra storage and Garageband files

I have Mac OS 10.12. "About This Mac" tells me that GarageBand is using 8.11 GB of storage. Then I check"Manage Storage" and I find out that it is "Garageband instruments and lessons" that are using up 8.11 BG. However I had already moved the Garageband app off of my hard drive. I check for large Garageband files in the library and none of the GarageBand files are even 1 GB. Does anyone know why my computer would be allotting 8.11 GB for this non-existent app??

MacBook Air confused

Hi,

I replaced my Macbook Air after my son spilled Orange juice on it. I was able to have the entire setup moved to my new Mac.
I had been using an external monitor with the defunct Mac, then stopped doing it for a year or so. Today, I plug the new Mac to the 21 inch monitor and...

when I go into parameters>display, my MacBook is recognized as an external screen and vice versa. That means I cannot adjust the resolution properly on the external screen.

Any idea how to correct that?

MBP 13" Retina: hate the Trackpad!!!

I love everything except trying to drag and drop multiple selected files:mad:

It seems the one and very particular only thing that works is placing two fingers precisely in the centre of the trackpad. If it's off by just a little, it won't work.

Youtube stutters/pauses during 720p/60fps playback (HTML5)

This only happens in 60 FPS youtube playback and I don't know why or how to best explain it exactly.

What happens is this: During 720P 60 FPS video playback the video will pause every 3 seconds and 1080P 60 FPS playback it will be every 2 seconds. The audio will never miss a beat and continue to play as per normal.

I have a 1 gigabyte internet connection, and it seems to buffer for up to a minute, so the every couple second pause is not making sense to me.

Mail Drafts folder playing Hide-N-Seek

Very annoying. Don't remember exactly when this started...quite some time ago. The Draft folder just decides to disappear until I create a new email for it or do a search for an email on Draft. Is there a fix for this or is this something Apple decided was best?

Eye Strain/Eye Health app/timer

Hi,

According to my optometrist i'm suffering from dry eyes due to lack of blinking so I'm looking for an app that will help me observe the 20-20-20 rule (every 20 mins look away from your screen at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds) which supposedly will help me remember to blink more...

I've yet to find any ios apps that can do this. Can anyone recommend an app that would work for this?

Sent emails in iCloud account missing

Tried helping a friend out today with his issue in Apple Mail (iCloud). He's been missing certain sent emails, particularly those with attachments. Sure enough, he sent me one tonight. I received it, yet, nothing in his sent folder. It's been happening with other's he's sent to. Checked the preferences and it's set to place all sent emails in the sent folder. Anyone else having problems with this?

No longer receiving emails to subscribed threads…

They seem to have stopped for me about two or three days ago that I noticed.

All other and similar forum sites working normally. Just ehmac.ca not sending out any subscribed emails that I'm not receiving.
