Trying to update 2015 MacBook Pro. Lots of aggravation.

I inherited a 2015 MacBook Pro and did a clean install. Lots of aggro there as the Internet Recovery took 4-5 attempts before I successfully installed OSX Yosemite.

Now, I'm trying to install AutoCAD and the installer does nothing. I found out it's a problem with the OS so I tried to get Catalina from the App Store. TheApp Store now insists on 2 factor authentication and tells me I need to enter the verification code. I get the verification code on my phone but there is nowhere on Yosemite to enter it. Argh.

Next, I tried to install FreeCAD. System security won't let me install because it's from an unidentified developer. But, when I click "Open Anyway", well, it just won't let me. Double Argh.

So now I'm downloading Sierra. Will the above problems go away with Sierra? Does Sierra have a facility for 2 factor authentication? And does the Security setting actually function properly?

Any comments appreciated.
