Posted Graphics

Have any of the ehMac admins changed the settings for any posted graphics, as they are suddenly not displaying properly in my browser and I don't recall having changed any settings anywhere.

As one can see they are rather chopped off and chopped up but I do not know if they will display properly for other users here or not, but this is what I see now:

Epson Scan 2 and cropping before scan?

I am starting to prepare myself to jump into the 64 bit only Mac OS now that Adobe is starting to release updates that require Catalina or later. Working on a few small apps I use and one of them I use for scanning is Epson Scan. A simple yet powerful app that I use with my Epson V550. There is a 64 bit version available called Epson Scan 2. They have updated it and now I am trying to find similar functionality. One thing I used a lot with Epson Scan was cropping the image I actually wanted...

Back up ssd

I am considering purchasing a Samsung T7 500gb ssd to back up my iMac's 500gb ssd. I already have a 500gb hd type running with Time Machine. Is the S T7 a good buy, and to also install CCC?
The reason I want an additional back up is due to the number of hydro bumps we are subjected to thoughout the year. These bumps knock out all our electronic appliances and I am afraid that one day they may damage a circuit board.

Thanks,
Sonny

e-signature apps

Hello all.
It looks like I'm going to have to get the capability to sign forms digitally and send them off. I tired docusign at one point but I found it to be unnecessarily complex and didn't like it. There are others at the appstore but which one to choose. Ease of learning and use are big factors for me. I only need to do it on rare occasions. Like this one where my wife is in Edmonton with our printer and scanner and I need to sign a grant form soon.
Thanks
David

Setting up a NAS

@MacDoc, I'm just not techie enough but I'm working on getting a NAS setup & running so at least 3.5-inch disks will be RAIDed. Then copies all my bits & bobs from externals onto NAS.

Will you please explain what are 'surface scans'? I'm not sure if SSDreporter is one of the tools you mean but it's showing:
72% (Wear_Levelling_Count 172 [threshold 100])

Doesn't mean much to me. Does it mean it's on the way out?

Any other tools you suggest? TIA!

Applecare+ extension past 3 years

Apple has been driving me crazy with extending coverage for clients that bought a machine with Applecare but did not buy AC+ within the specified 60 day period.

Now my decades long understanding was that you could extend the original Apple warranty if you bought the extension within the original 365 day period of purchase. We were doing that for clients and for our own stock for years.

Then sometime in the last 9 months everything went south on doing that for no reason I could discern. (...

Mac Pro freezes

Hi folks,

I'm running a Mac Pro circa 2009. Great machine, no complaints.
running El Capitan

Dual monitor set up, DELL and HP monitors (probably same vintage 2009)
Graphics Card - ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB

Once in a while, as I'm sitting on my desk, sometimes, I knock the desk,
or my knee taps the the underside of the desk. or if I drop something on top of my desk
(its a L shaped desk) my monitors go blank. They still have power but they are in
sleep mode, nothing being displayed...

New Forum Rules

No offense, mods, but these new forum rules really seem to be stifling conversation. It’s the Everything Else, Eh threads that have been keeping this place alive over the years I would say. So many original posters have left, and very few have joined to replace them. Good conversation is not where everyone agrees on everything but rather where discussion happens even when people disagree. People can be respectful. Trolling is discouraged. The political and religious threads used to be...

High Sierra--do I want to update MacOS?

I'm using 10.13.6. I like it--we're friends, mostly, with the occasional bad hair day. Are there any real advantages if I (yikes!) move up to one of the newer MacOS? Pros? Cons?

Con: 1) Definitely don't want no fancy-schmancy upgraded security features, I don't do the two-step & my password is a single character (as am I).

2) All my favourite third-parties would inevitably stop working--some of them are already unsupported by their developers let alone Apple. I'd miss them.

On the other...

HomePod Minis as Home Theatre Audio with Apple TV

Has anyone here HomePod Minis as audio for their Apple TV box? I have been thinking of getting a couple of these to hook up to my Apple TV box. Right now we watch all of our movies using our tv speakers. I would like to know if the sound quality of using a pair in stereo is worth the cost.

So psyched! Can't wait for my m1 max 14"!!

Early yesterday afternoon I put in my order for the 14" m1 max - I did some custom config changes to it so I have to wait a bit longer, but I should have it between oct 27-nov 3! Can't wait!!

I've been holding off since the release of the m1 13" mbp - because I wanted the apps I use all the time to be tested with the mac processor, and almost immediately I heard the rumours of the 14" version. So I figured I would wait.

Who else is excited? Did you order?

iMac (2010) repeatedly restarts

iMac 27" Mid-2010 2.93GHz i7

While using the iMac, it suddenly shut down. No warning. Just black screen, possibly powered down.

Upon restart, it chimes, and 3 seconds later, chimes again. That repeats until I shutdown the iMac either by pressing and holding the on/off button or I unplug the iMac.

Restarted with nothing attached to the iMac. No change.

Restarted with various key combinations pressed (safe boot, recovery mode etc) on a wired Apple keyboard. No change.

End of the line for this 13" MB Air?

Good afternoon everyone,

I'm hoping that the answer to this question will be obvious to those with in-depth knowledge - is this combination of software/hardware at the end of it's working life?

Our laptop is the Mid-2011 13" MB Air. It's unable to progress past Mac OS 10.10.5 according to eligible updates. We're now finding that almost every website we try to access thru Safari will not load - running into certificate issues. My suspicion is that our laptop is now drifting off into the...

Can I extend internet from Mac pro to Mac mini?

Hi all,

I have a Mac Pro, circa 2009. It’s next to the modem and is hard wired. There are two Ethernet ports on the back of the Mac Pro.

I also have a 2019 Mac mini further away.

if I plug in an Ethernet chord into port number 2 on the pro and connect it to the mini. Will the mini have access to the internet? I’d like to ask before investing in a chord.

thanks

MacBook Pro and iPad Pro on same network very different wifi speeds?

I have a 10" iPad Pro with the latest updates, I have a 2017 13" MacBook Pro running Mojave. I noticed an issue with trying to stream my local church. The iPad Pro registers 300+ mb down when using speediest.net When I go to speediest on my MacBook Pro I am getting if I am lucky 7mb down. Both are sitting side by side in the same room so on the same network. I have rebooted numerous times with no changes. Why would one device be so different then the other? ehMac's I Am Human verification system broken?

While we have new mods Vader & Peterweb on the line (welcome!), I'm having problems. I ehMac needs an I Am Human verification followed by two pages of all the boats. I'm sorry if that's true but I can put up with it.

However, today that verification process failed me using Safari. Ticking the I Am Human box didn’t always get me the pictures. Sometimes it returned me to I Am Human.

Even when I got the pix, selecting them didn’t get me to ehMac. It returned me to I Am Human.

Feedback on iOS 15

I finally took the plunge and upgraded my iPhone 6S to iOS 15.01. Only issue so far is that the battery started out at 100% and after the first use to set up the new OS, it was down to 10% in less than 15 minutes. Recharged now and going to monitor.

I did start having higher than expected battery life after 14.7. We'll see what 15 gives.

Hello

Hello from someone that wants to gain insight into what is available and what I can do with my iOS devices. Been reading for a while now, and just decided to get active.

I am not one to purchase the latest and greatest every year. My phone is a 6s, and my iPad is a gen 3 that is way too old with iOS 9 and whatever apps I had installed when iOS 10 came out. My wife has a newer iPad if I do need something newer to play with.
