Amazing Journey finishes in Victoria

An amazing feat of seafaring came to a successful end in Victoria early this morning.

Jeanne Socrates and her sailboat Nereida finished a 259 day around the world sail.

Solo.

Unassisted.

Uninterrupted.

Totally under sail - the Nereida's motor was never used for propulsion (at the beginning of the record attempt there was a seal placed onto the gearbox that proved that it was never taken out of neutral).

Jeanne is one of a select few to have made the solo, unassisted, uninterrupted sail circumnavigation. But what puts her into the record books is that at 70 years young, she is the oldest woman to ever complete the voyage.

My friend Robert was out to meet the Nereida and to document the record. See the photos at Robert Molnar's blog Blog | svliquiddays.com
