Brain trust - in the past 24 hours, my 2009 20-inch iMac has:
- suddenly rendered unusable my exterior hard drive (WD 2 TB). Finder doesn't see it at all, Disk Utility "sees" it but can't do anything with it. It says its "mounted" but running un-mount or disk repair puts it into a never-ending process of some sort. When I connect the HD to my Mac Air same problem, connecting it to a Windows machine, its not recognized at all.
- done something to my internal CD drive. If there is a CD in it, OK. If not, it runs constantly like it is searching for one
- turned the bottom half of the screen noticeably dimmer than the top half
- won't send a signal to my audio out
I've checked all the settings, reset the PRAM and SMC to no avail.
I'm thinking time for a new machine. Thoughts? What have I missed? Thanks. Bobby
