When size matters - new math?

I am intrigued by the movement of living in tiny houses like this one. I think they are so cute.

But I'm confused by this description.

Quote:

Tiny houses are, as you might expect, much smaller than their regular counterparts: where the average American home is usually around 2400 square meters, tiny homes are typically no bigger than 400 square meters.

Is my math outdated, or did somebody get their facts wrong?
