Apple has determined that the sleep/wake button mechanism on a small percentage of iPhone 5 models may stop working or work intermittently. iPhone 5 models manufactured through March 2013 may be affected by this issue. Apple will replace the sleep/wake button mechanism, free of charge, on iPhone 5 models that exhibit this issue and have a qualifying serial number. |

According to the serial number, my iPhone 5 qualifies for this program. I've never experienced any problem the button and I'm debating whether to do it or not. The web pages says to backup and then "Erase data and settings in Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings". Is this just for privacy purposes or does it mean that I may get a different device back? My phone has been well cared for: never dropped and minimal wear on the screen. I'd hate to get a refurbished phone in questionable condition!
