HI all,
Been a while (too long!) since I've posted here, but I am at a brand new school and have $$ to spend on tech! Those in the education business, have insight into what children should be equipped with and others: what technology do you believe needs to be in the hands of kids and teachers now?
iPads?
Android devices?
Laptops?
ChromeBooks?
PC desktops?
Mac computers?
After speaking with people who are in the education software business in North America, they've offered these thoughts:
- iPads won't last in education. They honestly believe the larger the device the deeper the answer. There's a blog post somewhere, which I will find and share with you all soon. Web 2.0 is the way to go and not apps.
- they think we'll see iPads in primary classrooms and Special Education, but for in-depth work, not so much. You could argue, just like kids will surf with the netbooks, they'll play with the iPad. There are exceptions to this point of view, of course.
- they'd suggest we grab Google Chromebooks before iPads. Cheaper, more universal in application. That being said they would advise against buying the Windows tablet. It is improved, but MS hasn't worked out all the kinks yet.
- they advise against going the computer desktop route, unless they were an amazing price. The machines don't do more than laptops and unless we're a school of gamers - they don't see many people buying them anymore.
Thoughts?
