volume issues w iTunes rented movie on iPad

I rented a movie off iTunes, tried watching it on my iPad on the airplane and couldn't get the volume to turn up.



I turned up the volume on the movie screen, turned up the volume as much as I could using the iPad volume toggles, but when I saw the "Headphone" volume level in the middle of the iPad screen, it kept reading about 55%. I couldn't get it to turn up!



Could this be an iTunes issue?
