You probably thought I was going to come down again on the lightbulb scam. Summed up this way. Regarding all that extra heat incandescent bulbs release, hey this is Canada, 9 months of the year that heat is not wasted, the other three months we don't need the lights at all.
However my real target is today's high efficiency 95+% furnaces. They cost a lot more, their expected lifetime is about 1/3 to 1/2 of an 80% version. Higher routine maintenance costs, plus all sorts of fancy electronics just looking for an excuse to break down as well. Not to mention all the dodges various manufacturers have created to avoid honoring the warranties.
IOW whatever small savings you may realize in natural gas will be more than offset in higher initial and long term costs, not to mention having to melt down these puppies long before they should be eligible for retirement.
