How to sync iCal to 2phones and imac

Hello
I would like to have one calander for my work and all the kids activities. I would like it to work on my iPhone, wife’s iPhone and our iMac. I was hoping there was a way to link them all so that if I change something it adds it to all devices and vice versa? Any tutorials or how too would be much appreciated as I am not sure how to do it and would need assistance . I would appreciate any help
Thanks
Jim

updating iOS-over wifi and iTunes

I find this strange. iOS 12.2 is out and I see it in Software Update on my iOS devices. When connecting my devices to iTunes on my Mac, only 12.1.3 is showing available for download for my iPad and my iPhone is said to be up to date with 12.1.4. I'd rather update through iTunes but don't want to do 12.1.3 just to get to 12.2.

Maybe this is the key I found at MacRumors: "The update is available on all eligible devices over-the-air in the Settings app."

Apple Event - March 25/19

Apple unveiled their new subscription services today at their event. Looks like 3 new ways to pay Apple monthly for content.

- They have a gaming subscription service that features 100+ games - seems super small

- Apple pay credit card

- Some news aggregation platform + magazines

- and the big one was the new Apple TV content

Apple did not give any prices that I saw and I am guessing the TV price will be hefty and they will justify it by the caliber of people they brought out at the event. Spielberg, Anniston, Steve Carell, Oprah and more. Not sure why Apple has gotten so full of themselves, I read one quote on the CNET live blog from Tim Cook "We think we contribute something important to our culture and society through content and storytelling" and then follows with "create a new service unlike anything done before". What? The whole think looks like Netflix or Amazon Prime. Apple is just jumping into the game, pushing a lot of money into it make themselves relevant. Some of the shows certainly looked interesting but I serious doubt I will be paying Apple for their TV service, I have enough already and I am guessing Apple will have that premium price tag.

When will Apple actually get back to hardware and software that actually help and increase productivity? They seem completely out of touch with that market. The Mac Pro is a great example of them off in their own world and probably patting themselves on the back about how amazing it is.

iTunes: Move Library Location

Ok, so I've been running my iTunes off a 1T HD for some time but it was getting close to capacity so I just picked up a 3T HD... I thought I could just use SuperDuper to duplicate the drive contents, but that hasn't seemed to work and iTunes can't locate any of the music files. Does anyone have any advice? I did find this one how to guide and just want to make sure it will work before I go to the trouble of copying the files again:

Apple iPhone trade-in program question

Here is the background.

I currently have an iPhone 6 in 8/10 condition (minor scratches but it has been in an Otterbox Defender case since day 1) and a battery upgrade from Apple last year when Apple was running the battery trade-in program.

A family member recently upgraded their iPhone 6S to an iPhone XS and gave me the old iPhone 6S. The iPhone 6S has some problems. The lightening port doesn't always accept a charge, the internal speaker/microphone doesn't work so you have to use a headset or bluetooth and the battery life is short. Apple has said on repeated occasions to this family member that there is also water damage to this iPhone and they won't do any repairs to it.

My work allows for bring-your-own-device to work where they reimburse me the cost of my cell phone plan as long as the cost of your plan is in the same ballpark as the work plan. I am currently with Koodo on the $60/10GB of data bring-your-own-device 2017 Christmas promo plan so I am good there since the work plan is only 3GB of data. Obviously Koodo will not offer to give me any phone subsidies to upgrade my existing iPhone 6 unless I switch plans. Now, since I recently got a promotion, my work is offering to also contribute approx. $450.00 towards buying a new phone of my choosing.

I recently went to a few different 3rd party repair shops in Toronto to get quotes to repair the iPhone 6S. The quotes to repair were anywhere between $100.00 to $300.00 depending on the storefront. When I was at one of the repair stores, the repair guy suggested that instead of trying to fix the iPhone 6S, I may be better off going to Apple and trading in the phone. He suggested I would get a $150.00 credit towards that from Apple on a new phone purchase.

Can anyone give me any details on the trade-in program? I went on the Apple website and see they have an online trade-in and only give you a credit for a good working phone. How does this work in store? Is it an instant credit there? Also, if I wanted to, would they let me trade in both my existing iPhone 6 and the broken iPhone 6S for $300.00 in credit?

Also note that I have a $100.00 gift card to one of the malls where Apple has a storefront so I would also be able to apply that as well.

My thinking here is if I went and got the iPhone XR which is retailing for $1,029.00 minus the work $450.00 credit minus the $100.00 existing mall gift card minus the $150.00 trade in credit for iPhone 6S, my out of pocket cost is $329.00. And if they let me stack on the iPhone 6 as well and credit is also $150.00 (?) then I would only pay $29.00.

As part of this thought process, I also have to consider that if I cheap out and just decide to fix the iPhone 6S that Apple may drop support for it in iOS 13.

Can someone let me know their thoughts on the above and any experience in store with the trade-in program? At that point it may even be worth spending some additional out of pocket money to upgrade to the iPhone XS as well...???

An Exclusive Look At An Original iPhone Prototype

An interesting read.

Quote:

“This is a day I’ve been looking forward to for two and half years,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s late CEO, as he introduced the original iPhone on January 9th, 2007.

Apple had developed the iPhone in secret over those two and a half years, and for many inside the company, the device had only been known by the codenames “M68” and “Purple 2.” Apple was focused on surprising everyone with the iPhone, and that meant that many of the engineers working on the original handset didn’t even know what it would eventually look like.

THIS IPHONE PROTOTYPE LOOKED A LOT LIKE A PC
To achieve that level of secrecy, Apple created special prototype development boards that contained nearly all of the iPhone’s parts, spread out across a large circuit board. The Verge has obtained exclusive access to the original iPhone M68 prototype board from 2006 / 2007, thanks to Red M Sixty, a source that asked to remain anonymous. It’s the first time this board has been pictured publicly, and it provides a rare historical look at an important part of computing history, showing how Apple developed the original iPhone.

T2 chip not in new iMac

Apple came out with new iMac models today but I notice they do not have the T2 chip in them. Is this something I should be concerned about? Is it likely that Apple will eventually cut off support in OS X for Macs that do not have a T2 chip?

Thanks,
George

Apple updates iPads, iMacs, early....

...and by "early" I mean "earlier than I expected", thinking June would be the month with the WWDC. Maybe they're leaving the WWDC announcement schedule clear for the new Mac Pro?

In any case... new iPads, and iMacs... which of course come out three days after I placed an order for a new iMac 27" 4.2ghz. SO looking forward to having this new baby in my home.

And.... so miffed that if I want to grab a new model, I'll have to return this one immediately and re-do the deal, and wait.... :(

Then again, I ordered the i7 processor upgrade, since the i5 would be going too far back for future-proofing... and the processors available for the newly-announced models are the i5 or the i9 (at a $480 price tag). So maybe hanging out with the i7 processor will be enough....?

Ah, what to do, what to do.....

How much RAM does Handbrake use?

Is there a recommended amount of RAM per CPU-core recommended for Handbrake?
i.e. Would Handbrake benefit from having 32GB of RAM on a 6-core or 8-core CPU?

I would like to have the optimal amount of RAM needed to maximize the performance of Handbrake.

Right now I have a 7 year old iMac but would like to buy a new one. Apple now offers 6-core and 8-core iMacs but I have no idea how much RAM to get. My main usage is converting videos in Handbrake.

Thanks!
George

Way Back When

Nearly every day, I come across a picture that happened years back but remind me of another time. I thought this thread might be interesting to see what others see that takes them back in time.

I will begin with The Beatles with Fats Domino in New Orleans - 1964, all gone but Paul and Ringo.

RIP Dick Dale

https://www.thewrap.com/dick-dale-le...st-dies-at-81/

Quote:

Dick Dale, legendary rock guitarist and surf rock pioneer, died Sunday, his live bassist Sam Bolle told The Guardian. Dale was 81.
Reps for Dale didn’t immediately respond to TheWrap for further details.
Born Richard Anthony Monsour in May 1937, Dale revolutionized rock in the early 1960s with two iconic songs: “Let’s Go Trippin,” the song credited with the creation of surf rock; and his version of “Misirlou,” a single-string rattler that became an overnight hit after he performed it on “The Ed Sullivan Show” in 1963. It became part of film history 31 years later when Quentin Tarantino used it during the opening credits of “Pulp Fiction.”

Accounting software

Hello all.
Anything new in the world of accounting apps for Macs?
I’ve been using Liquid Ledger for awhile but it’s now real buggy and I can’t find a way to update it to make it happy with Mojave. Modeless Software is developper but I already have a newer version(2.4.1) that what they offer on their site.
I mainly use it to keep track of expenses and revenues and produce nice reports for a charitable organization I’m part of.
Thanks.

Mac pro white screen only

Okay- i have a 12 core mac pro from 2012. 24 gigs ram, video card is sapphire 7950.was running mojave beta ok. This one has me at my wits’ end. I took it in for service at a local Mac repair place. They told me it was something minor and charged me $50 for evaluation, took it in on friday. Picked it up tuesday. When i plugged it into a power outlet and hooked it up , and turned it on with the front power button, i got the Apple logo and the progress bar, booted up ok. Got the Desktop and everything else i could get. I should mention that the 2nd internal hard is dead which i kinda knew about before I took it in to be fixed. So, I shut it down as per usual( move mouse to shut down command on menu bar, click on it, shut down) however this morning i tried to start it up via the front Power button and it seemed to start up, chime and fans running. But all I could see on the monitor was a white screen... no logo, no progress bar. Nothing. The USB keyboard i have connected to it( a das keyboard) seems to work for about 30 seconds then it goes dead. Pressing the caps lock on the keyboard does nothing. I can reset the s m c/ p m u but that doesn’t do anything, i’d try zapping the pram or showing all bootable drives( option key on startup) but that’s a huge crapshoot, as would be trying to start up from the recovery partition, which usually works, as does the keyboard, but this time is a ‘ no way jose’ ... so... before i give this place a call again... and have to disconnect stuff( which is easy) and then get it out of my place... up a bunch of stairs, up stairs again, and out to my ride to this place, then pick it up eventually.. back down the stairs.. down some more stairs.. and back into my place.. any ideas? Any help? Any suggestions? Bueller? Bueller?
Thx for anything
John B

your opinion re 2014 MBP?

Hi,

I'm looking to finally upgrade from my mid-2009 MBP to something newer. For my budget and desire for certain ports, I'm looking 2014s. I was wondering what folks think of this machine:

2014 MBP Retina, 15" with 256GB 2.2 GHz 4-Core i7 with 16GB RAM

I want the size of a 15" because I'm doing video editing. I'm currently using iMovie but do want to get back to FCX or some other better program. I'll use an external HD for more storage.

I also do online video tutoring and my current machine starts chugging/moaning (expressing disgruntlement with the task) after an hour. It's fine when given a break from the intensity of the screen time but I'd like to do more than an hour at a time.

The machine I'm thinking of buying is coming at around $1300 CDN all in.

Any thoughts? Do you use this? Does it work well? Any issues?

thanks!

Looking for brightness info on late 2009 Macbook display

I am trying to find details on how bright the display is on the late 2009 MacBook (white plastic model). I currently have this laptop and want to upgrade to the Macbook Air 2018. However, I heard that the MacBook Air display is not very bright. As long as the display of the MacBook Air is at least as bright as my old laptop, I will be happy with it. :)

Thanks!

Enabling "Auto Save" in posts and replies

Just a thought for consideration as I just posted here:

Even with MacOS the same problem can happen and has done so too many times for me.

What we need is the "Auto Save" implemented that a lot of other sites using vBulletin use successfully.

Maybe I should post this for the Admin to read and ponder.

Alex Trebek: I have stage 4 pancreatic cancer

Jeopardy host Alex Trebek says he has pancreatic cancer
Alex Trebek has been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

The Canadian-born Jeopardy host made the revelation in a video posted to the show’s official YouTube channel on Wednesday afternoon.

“Now, just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer,” he said. “Now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this, and I’m going to keep working.

“And with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers, also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease.”

He then joked that he has to keep working due to contractual obligations.

“Truth told, I have to! Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy for three more years! So help me. Keep the faith and we’ll win. We’ll get it done. Thank you.”
