Apple unveiled their new subscription services today at their event. Looks like 3 new ways to pay Apple monthly for content.
- They have a gaming subscription service that features 100+ games - seems super small
- Apple pay credit card
- Some news aggregation platform + magazines
- and the big one was the new Apple TV content
Apple did not give any prices that I saw and I am guessing the TV price will be hefty and they will justify it by the caliber of people they brought out at the event. Spielberg, Anniston, Steve Carell, Oprah and more. Not sure why Apple has gotten so full of themselves, I read one quote on the CNET live blog from Tim Cook "We think we contribute something important to our culture and society through content and storytelling" and then follows with "create a new service unlike anything done before". What? The whole think looks like Netflix or Amazon Prime. Apple is just jumping into the game, pushing a lot of money into it make themselves relevant. Some of the shows certainly looked interesting but I serious doubt I will be paying Apple for their TV service, I have enough already and I am guessing Apple will have that premium price tag.
When will Apple actually get back to hardware and software that actually help and increase productivity? They seem completely out of touch with that market. The Mac Pro is a great example of them off in their own world and probably patting themselves on the back about how amazing it is.
