Time Capsule and lost/destroyed laptops

Alright, geniuses...

A friend (mentioned in another thread) just lost his laptop while travelling. This is the third laptop in three years that he's lost or destroyed (previous was a glass of red wine into the keyboard of his MacBook Air while over the Atlantic).

I had gotten him to replace his ISP wifi router with a Time Capsule a few years ago, and it's done it's job well. Unfortunately, he didn't do his. He "didn't see" the Time Machine warnings that backups weren't being done due to lack of space. Hence, his currently SOL.

So we're starting from scratch. The local Apple store Genius restored the most recent backup (3 months old). But Time Machine is not recognizing the existing backup Data file as belonging to his new laptop.

We want to wipe that backup file and begin anew. But it won't let us. When we mount the Time Capsule (via the Network sidebar item) we see a "Data" folder under his laptop name, but we're unable to delete it. Apparently from what I'm reading in Apple Discussions, the only possible way to do this is with the terminal.

We don't want to wipe the TC completely, because there is another Mac also using the TC for backups.

So the question - anyone found an easier process for killing abandoned Time Machine backup folders / sparsebundles from the Time Capsule or do I need to get my fingers dirt in terminal?
