Talking the real thing in this case. Over the past couple of summers I have been leaving an external HD in an unattached storage shed. HD has most recent OS and Data back-up and is updated about once a month. My thought is if the house should burn down the shed would probably not be touched and getting my computing world back to norm would be relatively easy. Rodents and moisture are not a worry here.
The big question is: How would an external drive stand up to winter temps dropping to -30°C?
Would be nice to have that complete back-up somewhat offsite during the winter months as well, but would be rather worthless if cold temps iced the drive.
