SO I'm planning on travelling to multiple countries in the near future and am trying to decide on the best way other than wifi to stay connected while on the move. I'm mainly interested in only data as getting a new # in every country would be of little use when I can use fongo or Skype in those cases when I need to call someone. At the most I would be connecting an iPad or iPhone and possibly the Macbook (although not a huge deal as we'll be in wifi at some point anyway). Mainly just want access to maps and being able to book something online while on the go so the iPhone or iPad would be more important.
My choices as I see them are:
1. Unlocked phone. Last time I used an unlocked phone in the US, I went with a voice/txt package only and it worked well, I don't recall now if they had data only pays as you go for iPhones and it's not all too clear when checking online - they all seem to include some sort of voice/txt plan. This seems easier in the EU.
2. 3G/LTE iPad - Most countries seem to have good iPad plans but there is some concern over being able to activate hotspot with different carriers, something already available on my iPhone.
3. Myfi - this seems to fit the bill on being able to share date between all our devices but plan costs seem to be much higher (although offer more data).
At this point I'm leaning towards either the iPad 3G/LTE or unlocked iPhone but any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. Anything I'm missing?
