LogMeIn, a company that provides software as a service-based remote connectivity, collaboration, and support solutions to businesses and consumers, has decided after 10 years that it will be removing its free remote access product. The company announced that they will be unifying their free and premium remote access products. The new product will be a paid-only offering and the company says it will offer the best remote accessing program on the market. LogMeIn will be notifying users who will be affected by the changes within in the coming weeks. The following are some of the changes we will see within the coming weeks. Starting in January, the company will gradually migrate users of the LogMeIn and Ignition-branded services onto one product. LogMeIn Pro users will be upgraded to a premium remote access service which includes the capability to sync and share files with services such as Cubby, Dropbox, Box, Google Drive and SkyDrive. If you are a LogMeIn iOS user, the company explains below on how you will be affected by the upcoming changes. For owners of LogMeIn Ignition for iPad/iPhone and LogMeIn Ignition for Android While customers who purchased these apps are impacted by this change, we have taken steps to be especially attentive to these customers. LogMeIn Ignition for iPad/iPhone and Android app purchasers will receive significant discounts, as well as generous terms to ease the transition. Details of these offers are being sent to Ignition mobile users this week, both via email and in-product notifications. Current users of the free version will have seven more days to use the product from the time they log into their account, during which time they can decide whether to upgrade to the paid version. The paid version costs about $100 per year, so if you are a user of their free service, its time to decide if you get enough value from the product to justify the price tag. LogMeIn has provided an FAQ for users which can be found here. |
