Strange iMac sleep/waking problem

Recently my older 24" iMac occasionally goes to sleep of it's own accord and I have to briefly touch the power-on switch to awake the computer. The keyboard or mouse will not wake the computer as it used to. I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem? I worry that one of the automatic software updates may have caused this problem.
