Hi there- I haven't really used time machine much and have usually done clone backups, but decided I really should spend a few bucks and get a big enough drive for it.
I have a 5Tb drive with a 2.5 TB partition for the TM backup, it is USB 3 and connected directly to mac. I reformatted it and partitioned it with disk utility and formatted it to "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"
MacBook Pro 13" i7 2.9Ghz, 8Mb ram, 750Mb regular hard drive (not solid state)
I have 525 Gb of data to back up and it has been going for 10 hours and has only gotten through 23Gb of backup! at that rate it will take about 9.5 days to back it up. That doesn't seem right at all. I expected it would take time to process and then it would be pretty quick to just copy it all, but it hasn't sped up at all. Also it is still "calculating time remaining..." if that is a clue.
Also, I have noticed that the computer is very slow, and I see the beach ball a lot, maybe there is something wrong with my internal hard drive?
thanks
ryan
