want to tether android to mac mini, need help

I have done this once before and seem to have forgotten the steps. I can set up the wireless hotspot on my android phone but can't get myself online. I think I'm not enabling something somewhere. I did switch the wifi on the computer to the android phone but it's not seeing it correctly. If someone can help me, I promise to write down all of the steps and keep that info safe.
