2 hdmi cables dead in one week?

Had a strange problem with my parents setup. They have a rogers cable box hooked up via HDMI and they have an Apple TV, hooked up also by HDMI. In the last week, both cables stop working. I know it was the cables as I swapped them from a tv in another part of the house and the HDMI I took from another Apple tv worked with both the cable box and apple tv. Could something happen to cause an HDMI cable to stop working? If it was one cable I would probably not think anything of it, but 2 different cables, different makes both crapping out at very close intervals. I have never had an HDMI cable give me issues, so not sure what to think about this.



Any thoughts?
