adding RAM later to a Mini

I'm consdering buying a Mini with the base RAM and adding more 9-12 months later when it's cheaper and not from Apple (where it's cheaper). Is this possible or is it recommended to upgrade the RAM upon purchase because of the construction of the unit such as Airs?



Same for MBP Retinas?
