One week old 13" rMBP fried - need insight

So we got a new 13" rMBP for my daughter for Xmas and a cat (not even our cat) knocked a glass of water on it and the unit is now dead. I think it lasted three days.

The diagnosis from the "Genius Bar" is the motherboard is toast (no surprise). They also say the mag power port needs to be replaced as does the 128 GB SSD drive. The diagnosis of the last two parts is simply because they show signs of water contact. The "Genius Bar" claims they don't have the resources to actually test the components, but because the components show signs of water contact they have to replace them as well in order for the warranty to continue (note that this is not a warranty repair, but if they don't replace all the parts with water contact then the original warranty will not be honoured).

Total repair costs is $1,045 + HST. the rMBP is base model upgraded to 8 GB of RAM.

I'm not convinced that the SSD drive and the mag port need to be replaced, but the motherboard certainly needs replacement. However, the "Genius" says Apple won't sell me the motherboard. Nor do I have a pentalobe screwdriver (or whatever the proprietary screwdriver is called), but that's probably the least of my issues.

What does the collective knowledge of ehMac have to suggest? Sell it to the highest bidder? Try to salvage? Sue the cat?
