I'm a leave it on kind of person. Plug that new printer in, fire it up and leave it on. If you need a light on so you can see anything and you're going to be in and out of that room 20 times a day, leave the light on.
IMHO, that idle printer doesn't draw enough power to shock a gnat and flipping that light off might rack up a 3¢ saving per month.
So why do people insist on turning things off?
Sure, turn off the oven when the cake is done. Switch off that power saw when you're not using it, but a light in a room that someone else will be going into five minutes later? Or that printer with a hidden on/off switch?
I say leave them on. What's the prevailing wisdom?
