Android media player, any advice?

My son bought an android multimedia streamer and wants me to try it. I've been years without cable and he thinks this thing will change my life :)

It comes in a nice box, but I guess I'm not tuned in to the right conversations cuz I can't find much about the whole concept. Any experience you cane share?
