I upgraded it with two Xeon quad-core X5355 2.66 GHz CPUs. Thus is it now an eight-core machine.
Firmware has been upgraded to support the eight-cores so the machine now reports as a "MacPro 2,1" in "About This Mac".
"About This Mac" reports the following
Original GeForce 7300 GT video card.
12 GB RAM. All modules have heatsinks.
Apple original OS X 10.5.6 install DVD and Mac Pro Applications DVD included.
NO HARD DRIVES. No keyboard. No mouse.
All 4 hard drive sleds with screws are included. Some of the rubber grommets that held the screws in the sleds have disintigrated long ago. Thus, the screws are loose and will be packaged in a bag.
The highest version of OS X that will run naturally this machine is 10.7.5. I ran 10.6.8 with the 7300 GT video card. You will need a more powerful video card to run newer versions of OS X.
There are hack guides on the internet detailing how to install newer versions of OS X if you wish. The machine will also run Windows and Linux.
