OS upgrade

My mid-2007 15-in. MBP (MacBookPro3,1) is still running OS 10.6. A few weeks ago I clean installed OS 10.10 on an external HDD and used it to boot up the old MBP. Interestingly the machine ran as good if not slightly better under 10.10. I think this is the last version of OS that could run on the old MBP. Can I install OS 10.10 over 10.6 without installing 10.7-10.9 first?

Likewise my early-2011 15-in. MBP is running OS 10.9. Can I skip ahead to 10.11 or 10.12 directly bypassing 10.10?
