How do you fix a lockup iPad.

Hello all, I have a student ( foreign language learner and who is also cognitively impaired ) who has an ipad which is locked up due to forgotten password. The student has a white charge cable but I can't seem to find out if he has a USB cable to hook up to another computer. Since he doesn't seem to have an internet connection at home is the only way to fix this is to wipe the thing an start over? If so I could hook the thing up to one of my machines....but the student probably would loose all of the files on the thing.



Any ideas, the ipad would certainly help with learning and I know there is little money at home to have a tekkie do it, so what are the options? Any help will be appreciated.
