VMWare - windows XP

okay i know this is the wrong place but going to ask any way..



i have XP only for my Security cameras.. I noticed when I am logged in, recently that my app is showing a red overlay on my play backs..



I reformatted the system reseated the cameras network etc..

when I watch it live it is fine on the iPhones and the system in xp but playback through the recorded log viewer is red.. but then I save it as avi the file played in windows player normal no red overlay..



so I am guessing one of the prefs are corrupt for the app i use for the media player, does any one know where I can go to trash the prefs? I am not a PC expert.

I have a G4 powerbook, no longer upgradeable. Can I connect and use with a Mac Mini? What do I have to do to prep the G4?

Apple cinema 20" display problems

Recently, my Apple Cinema Display (2", DVI) has been giving me problems. It has been going black whenever I restart and for a time afterwards. It sorta behaves itself after a few hours, but still is naughty now and again. The only way to get a picture back on the screen is to disconnect and reconnect the power cord from the wall to the Apple Cinema Display power Adapter (65 W) which, again, doesn't always work, or last for long. :mad:



Frankly, this is getting to be a real pain in the butt. I know that monitor's don't last forever

(nothing good ever does, I guess) and that Apple won't fix this, but send it off, maybe I can buy a used one from them, or not. It's pretty old, after all, for a monitor. So, what I'd like to know is...should I be shopping for a newer monitor or is it just the power adapter?:-(

Keyboard cover for iPad mini retina

I just bought a mini retina, and am trying out two keyboard non-folio cases for it: the Logitech Ultrathin and the Zagg cover for the mini (fits the retina). Each seems to have its own advantages and disadvantages, but I'd like to hear from someone who has used one of these for awhile what they think of theirs. Here are my impressions so far:



Zagg

Positives:

- $20 cheaper (probably because it was designed for the older mini)

- rotates into different positions

- clamp is stiff enough to hold the mini closed against it when not in use

- backlit keys

- more spacious width-wise

- separate row for function keys

Negatives:

- noticably heavier than the Logitech

- keys stiffer than Logitech, so more tiring to type on

- despite the greater layout space, I make more errors typing on it

- much harder to separate from mini than Logitech

- fit in the clamp is not as tight as it would be with the non-retina mini, though it does seem quite secure.



Logitech

Positives:

- much lighter than Zagg

- easier to type on than Zagg despite the more cramped layout

- quicker and easier to attach to and separate from mini

Negatives:

- more expensive ($60 vs $40 with current sale prices)

- doesn't hold to mini in clamshell position (i.e. you could accidentally drop the mini if you are holding the clamshell by the keyboard and it springs open

- only one angle available when in use (no rotating clamp like Zagg), but it's a good angle



I should mention that I have an Incase neoprene sleeve for my mini, so I don't need protection for when I pack it.



Your thoughts? Feel free to suggest another keyboard if you think it's better.

Operation!

John Spinello, creator of Operation board game who couldn't afford surgery, gets online help







The creator of the board game Operation needed his own operation, and it turned out he couldn't afford to pay for it.



So John Spinello's friends decided to raise the money for him online. Now, they've been able to raise enough money to help Spinello pay for the surgery as well as some other bills.



Spinello, 77, of Bloomingdale, Illinois, invented the buzzing game of precision in the early 1960s as an industrial design student at the University of Illinois. He sold the concept for $500 to a toy inventor who later licensed it to Milton Bradley.

Fast forward decades later, and Spinello and his wife ended up filing for bankruptcy after their warehouse business went under during the recession. Recently, he found out he needed oral surgery to fix his teeth at a cost of $25,000. That's on top of other outstanding bills he has.

As of Friday, more than $30,000 had been raised online, along with $15,000 through other means — by selling games signed by Spinello and through other donations. The online campaign began Oct. 22.



Hasbro, which now owns Milton Bradley, is also pitching in. It plans to buy Spinello's original prototype and put it on display at its global headquarters in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Neither Spinello nor Hasbro would comment on the price.



Spinello, who still owns the patent to the game, is overwhelmed by the support. "You can't put a price on it," he said Friday.



Spinello said he got the idea for Operation as a child when he stuck a safety pin in an outlet and got shocked.

Mail won't send my password

Recently I am getting a message that Mail can't send my password to the server securely. Accordingly, it won't let me receive new messages. My only option is to turn on "use insecure authentication ".

The problems with is, aside from the obvious, that the setting won't stay on as the default setting. If I close Mail I have to start over again and reset it.



Has anyone had this problem? By the way I just upgraded to Yosemite. Could this have caused it?



Appreciate any help you can provide.
