My wife's MacBook Air (2017-13", macOS 12.7.2) is constantly inundated with banners on the upper righthand corner of her screen. They are very short and want you to click on them. There are multiple reasons such as you have a virus or your files are being downloaded etc..etc.

I told my wife not to click on any of them.

1. I have cleaned out her history
2. I have used Antivirus Zap. When scanned no virus or malware were detected.

Can't install os 10.6

I need help. I have an older macbook around 1911 I think that i want to install OS 10.6 on. I had 10.7.5 on it but it was
wonkie. so i tried to erase the 10.7 and add 10.6 that's where the problems started. now i can neither add 10.6 or add 10.7 again using the reinstall function as my Mac ID won't work. How can I wipe my drive so i can install 10.6

"OpenOffice" cannot be opened

What's with Apple? I have been using OpenOffice for years on my Macs. In the past week or so I have been getting the following message on my M1 MacBook Pro when I try to use this app: "OpenOffice cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified. MacOS cannot verify this app is free from malware."

I down loaded the app again but I still get the same message. OpenOffice is not in the App Store. Is Apple trying to force you in downloading/purchasing their apps?

Rosetta

Did a nice clean install on my new Mac (factory install was a bit buggy) and I have a couple apps (PDFPen Pro and MacX Video Converter) that want me to install Rosetta. It must have been installed at the factory but now I'm wondering if I want to install it again. Not sure whey some developers don't update their apps to work natively. Do any of you hesitate to install Rosetta and just look for a new app that will run natively on your Mac?

Booting 2023 MBP off External Drive

When connected to an external clones drive, my Mac never sees it when going into Startup Disk. On my older Macs, when that happened, restarting with the Option key held down would bring it up. Not on my new Mac. Is shutting down and then holding the power key on startup the only way to bring up a bootable drive on these new Macs?

What if any privacy benefits social media via browser vs apps.

Curious if I do all my social media engagements via a browser as oppose to having the app (with various settings turned off or on) if it's more private. With facebook via browser for example I know I am only giving access to my device's stored files on a per need basis and not all the time. Too via browser I do not need to give access to my iPhone's contact list. I just went from an iPhone 7 Plus to a new-to-me 14 Pro. I used the ol' "put the iPhones next to each other and magical things will happen" to set up the 14 Pro.

The 7 Plus didn't have any problems syncing to my iTunes on my mid-2010 iMac (High Sierra) (home to my iTunes folders).

But I can't get iTunes 12 to recognize the new iPhone to sync the playlists and songs.

Updating Excel

Hello Collective Wisdom,
I am happily using Excel 2008 on an iMac running Mojave (OS 10.14.6).
My partner uses a newer version of Excel, and we need to share files back and forth (e.g. by email).
When she sends me an .xlsx file I can open it, but some of the formatting gets screwed up.
Bottom line, I need to update to the most recent version of Excel which Mojave can handle.

Who would have thought a 3400$ iMac, purchased in March 2019, would be barely useable after 3 years.
Specs are 21.5" iMac with3.2 Ghz Intel 17, 4 GB Vega 20 card, 16 GBs ram.

iMac goes to sleep and when I touch the keypad - comes to a screen with login that I cannot access

I just updated my iMac to Ventura and am having this issue.

Normally, I don't let my Mac go to sleep - but actually do a shut down so I am not sure how new this is.

However. the other day, I let the Mac go to sleep. When I returned and pushed on the keypad - it came up with a generic picture of the colourful waves and a spot to log in. I tried my login info - but it would not take.

At the bottom of the screen, I had options of 'restart, sleep and log off' I chose the restart and it came...

Refurb MacBook Pro came shipped as new

Just received my 2023 MacBook Pro 14 inch M2 and it appears new. Came in the new Apple Original box with no sticker on it certifying it as a refurb. I haven’t yet looked at the serial number. Just ordered a MBP 14 inch and really don’t want the screen to get the same abrasions that I see on my early 2015 MBP 13” screen. I took care of my MBP so I assume they’re all from the keyboard. I thought it was only the previous MBP screens that sustained “damage” from the keyboard. MagSafe green light blinking

I have a MagSafe charger where the green light is blinking - never had that before in all the years I have owned Macs.I wonder if anyone knows what that means.

I have already gone through all the normal steps, resetting things on the Mac etc.

If I plug in another MagSafe charger everything works fine, so that suggests the Mac and battery are OK.
Don't currently have another MacBook Pro to check the charger on it - will have a second one next Saturday.

MacPro Start Up - won't turn on

Hi Folks,

I have a 2009 Mac Pro (my main machine for years)

Last week on start up it kept chiming....I shut it down, turned it on and it went away I didn't give it much thought.

Today my screen filled up with little square pixels all over. Out of nowhere, not sure what happened.

I had to force quit to shut it down. Upon re-starting it keeps playing the internal chime, and won't go further than that.

Is the machine toast or can I salvage it somehow?

Mac M1 and installing Windows 11 in Parallels

Another forum I am on has a user that is trying to install Windows 11 in Parallels on their M1 Mac. Has anyone got any ideas on if this is possible?

The Microsoft FAQ for Windows 11 does not list the M1 chip as compatible with Windows 11. But then again, it says my 5 year old Windows laptop with intel i5-5200U is not compatible????

Upgrading from macOS 10.12.6

Hello all

It looks like we'll have to upgrade the OS on my wife's 2014 iMac. She's running into problems most notably unable to get to webbroker on the td site using Safari 12.2.1. No updates can I find for Safari without updating the OS.

To which OS should we update? And do we have to go step by step? 10.12 to 10.13 to 10.14 etc. She has no hesitation in going as far as she can (!!).

10.12.6 is no longer supported so we cam't see available updates in System Preferences.

.mov file won't copy to an external hard drive

need to transfer .mov files to external drive so the person can work on it... but it's telling me the following:

"Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occured. (error code 0) "



the files sizes are 13GB, 50GB, and 34GB. Are these file sizes too big to transfer? The hard drive has plenty of space (205GB available).

I've got a early 2014 Mac mini (mini display connection) that works fine with my NEC VGA display. Syncing of Messages on iOS devices

I don’t believe I’ve ever seen any message deletion sync over to another device. I can delete a message on my iPhone but I’ve also got to delete it on my iPad. Yes, both devices are signed into the same Apple iCloud account. This is what is suppose to happen but I’ve never seen it:

Epson V750 scanner recognized intermittently

I have an Epson V750 scanner that is intermittently not recognized by my Mac Pro. If I temporarily unplug the USB cable or following a power outage, Epson Scan and Image Capture won't see it or be able communicate with it. Sometimes, even the profile for the V700/750 disappears from the System Preference setting for Printers and Scanners.

Strangely enough, if I plug the USB cable into my MacBook and attempt a single scan using Image Capture, then plug the USB cable back into the Mac Pro...

Fitness App on Apple Watch & iPhone

Been using the Fitness app every day now since last Fall. One thing that bothers me is that the Fitness widget on my iPhone doesn't refresh as I'm exercising unless I quit it and start it up. Very annoying. You'd think Apple would have gotten that right. Sure my Apple Watch does, but not my iPhone (neither my iPad for that matter). Am I missing something?

Ran out of application memory

2015 MBP, 10.13.6, 16 GB, ~20% free disk space

I don't often shut down my Mac. Things were slowing down yesterday so I restarted, used Memory Clean's deep clean option, ran OnyX.

Overnight, I had only a few apps running: Safari, Firefox, Chrome, TextEdit. (Yeah, all have many open tabs.)

Woke up to find all apps quit & a warning I had run out of application memory. First time, I believe, since 2015!

Restarted those applications (screenshot attached) & ran Memory Clean again. Looked OK...

2014 imac wireless keyboard problems

Hello all

The wireless keyboard of my wife's 2014 iMac is misbehaving.

For a while now, it has seemed to be going through (rechargeable 2300mAhr) batteries faster than in the past.
Today replaced with fully charged ones. Properly installed. Clean contacts. (Can't clean the contact in the bottom of the battery compartment.) Keyboard will not turn on. On/off switch feels correct.

Pages and Paragraph Styles

Hi Everyone!
It's my first time trying to use pages for a term paper, and my instructor is a bit of a hardass when it comes to proper APA style formatting. When I use the Table of Contents and Paragraph Style functions, it's completely screwing up the APA formatting and even though I "fix" it back to 12pt Times New Roman, it goes back to the original as soon as another point is added to the TOC!!
Where can I download an APA template for it to follow? Are there any easy fixes for this...

Converter for PDF file from Kindle?

I called Amazon about getting text-to-speech on the Kindle for Mac and they said it couldn't be done, but if we could convert the PDF file to put it on the computer out of the kindle app, it might work then. They couldn't (weren't allowed) to give me the name of any converters for Mac so I am wondering if anyone here knows of any converter that can be downloaded which will convert a pdf from Kindle onto the Mac.
