Yahoo IMAP and Big Sur

I have a pal who has a recent Mac laptop that he -sigh- updated to Big Sur.

His Yahoo! IMAP now only works 50% with Mail on his Mac.

He can receive, but he cannot send.

This has been a problem with Yahoo! IMAP for *years*. I always have found a way to make it work, but it looks like Big Sur is our final roadblock. Lots of threads in Apple Discussions on the matter. Naturally, Yahoo! Mail support has zero helpful info.

We've done the usual - attempted to edit the existing server settings (using Yahoo!'s own settings recommendations; deleted the IMAP mail server and recrecated; deleted and selected the "automatically manage settings"; checked the "Internet Accounts" settings in System Preferences (really useless); he is presently searching for a chicken and a Book of the Dead to move into some more arcane efforts of resolution.

So - before the blood flows, I'm throwing this out to the assembled experts of ehMac. Would prefer folks who actually use Yahoo! Mail (I know, I know - who does that?) and Big Sur. And/or have encountered and fixed this issue already.

Apple Mail is slow...really slow

Hi All,

About a week ago, I noticed my mail being really slow. It doesn't matter which mailbox i'm using. Everytime I either select a different mailbox or select a different message the dreaded apple spinning beach ball appears...after a few seconds it goes away. I can't figure it out....Perhaps I have too many e-mails in my inbox?

I thought perhaps I have too many e-mails in my inbox, the issue does not affect my other macs, just my Mac Pro so that can't be it.

Audible and Apple CarPlay issue

Seeing as the iOS section is a mess and no one is moderating or cleaning up the site I thought I might have better luck posting here.

I drive a 2020 Subaru Outback. I use CarPlay every day and love it. It has worked flawless for the few months I have had the car. Starting yesterday I have had issues with Audible playing though and it seems to be an issue with the app itself, but not sure why it has started seemingly out of the blue as I have not done any updates or made any changes. iPhone 11 connected to the car via USB.

The issue is I play my audible book and then switch the screen to google maps. Audible will play for maybe a minute or 2 and then stop playing. I have to switch back to the Audible app on my Outbacks infotainment screen and hit play again. This repeats, plays for a couple of minutes then stops. Now if I leave the Audible app forefront it continues to play without interruption. I have tried restarting my phone, quitting the audible app, restarting the car (gets done anything when I get to work and go home). No l luck in correcting this. Anyone have this issue and have a suggestion on what I can do to fix it?

Upcoming Evaluation for a New Platform Update

Dear Community Members,

Over the past few years we have been working to improve the technology, user interface, and site performance on this platform. We’ve worked to develop a new, faster site that performs well across all devices, allows easily sharing knowledge on a secure platform, and makes finding relevant and interesting content more simple.

We are implementing a new platform to better meet the needs of this community and that allows us to provide support more efficiently. Our focus is to create a sustainable platform that performs well and loads faster on all devices while offering seamless ways to search and connect. The technology we use to host our communities is subject to continuous innovation, and by creating an environment that can be better controlled and maintained, we can push more frequent updates and improvements to the platform.

Preparations We’re Making

The next step in this process is to prepare the site for migration to a new platform. You may notice some general maintenance tasks to ensure that there is no outdated or obsolete data that could conflict with the new platform structure or new features added to the site.

We will also be going through the site and documenting any links/articles and stand-alone content that may not migrate. For content that is still relevant but cannot be migrated in its current form, we will be placing that information into threads or archiving it. Rest assured, that even if data is not visible after migration, it is all backed up for consideration after migration. If there is a specific area that you are concerned about, please let us know.

What’s Next?

I bet you’re thinking, “What does this mean for me and the community?” It does mean change, but moving to a new, more stable platform will help solve a large majority of the issues that this site may have been experiencing. We have reviewed reported issues, site statistics, traffic data, and user feedback to help us prioritize the changes and improvements. With the new platform, page speed will be much faster, uploading an image or video will be easier and streamlined, and user privacy and site security are much improved within the newer system.

When will this be happening? You may already start to see activity related to cleanup in preparation for migration over the coming year. While we can’t promise that migration will occur within a given time frame as of yet, due to some of the challenges of preparation and workflow being tough to predict, know that we are working to make this happen for the community. However if we can get this platform updated sooner, we will make every effort to update in a timely manner.

What Can You Do To Be Prepared

Make sure your email address is up to date in your account.
If you don't remember your password, now would be a good time to reset it. Save the information.
The link that displays all your attachments on the site will not be available, but all attachments will still be in your posts. It might be worth taking the time to browse through the attachment list (if applicable) to see if you want to add anything from there to your albums for easy access later.

On May 21, 2019, Apple launched the “MackBook Pro Display Backlight Service Program” where it replaced the cables on a “very small percentage” 13-inch MacBook Pro 2016 units sold between October 2016 and February 2018 and reimbursed customers who had already paid to have their cables fixed.

Some MacBook Pro models had issues with uneven backlighting caused by the flex cable wearing out and breaking after repeated opening and closing of the display. The uneven lighting became known as “stage lighting,” with the backlighting eventually failing in many cases.

Eligible models include the MacBook Pro (13-*inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports) and MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports).

Streaming BT from Apple TV 4 cuts of TV sound

I'm hearing impaired and need headphones to hear the TV. I have a nice set of BT Sony headphones but linking cuts the TV speaker out. Any fixes or add on BT devices to solve this? The Mrs wonders why I wasted money and cut her sound off.

get around gmails phone number verification?

I have a few "junk" email accounts I have made over the years through gmail. I use them for forums and things where I do not want to receive email or any contact from a site. I was trying to get into a forum I have not been on in years and it is registered under one of my junk email accounts. I do a password reset through the website and then I try and log in to the gmail account and it wants my mobile number to send a verification code. I try to give google as little information as possible and I do not want to give my mobile number if I can avoid it with these junk accounts. I tried an website that provides numbers to receive texts from, that did not work as it never came through. Does anyone know away around this verification process? They already have another email that I confirmed, but that is not enough.

Can't delete a folder

Hi All,

I have a folder that I can't delete. There is a red exclamation mark next to the folder. When I try to delete I get the following message

The operation can’t be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure “Locked” is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again.

My folder is under my BOX desktop folder and has a folder within it. I can't delete the main folder or the sub folder. I don't think its a box issue as I can delete other folders under my box folder. Nothing is locked and permissions are set to 'read and write'

I'm running 2019 Mac mini Big Sur 11.1 (and not a fan of this, but that's for another thread)

Any ideas?

help..please.. GUID?

Hi All,

i've been watching youtube videos left right and centre...just can't figure it out. My disk utility looks nothing like the disk utility of old. Looks like apple has removed or hidden the options needed.

I am running 10.11.4 on my laptop. I want to downgrade and install OSX Mountain Lion. I have the image. For the love of pete, how in the world do I make my USB key bootable with the image I have?

I have partitioned the USB key, but I can't seem to find a way in Disk Utility to make it bootable. In the past I would Select GUID....i'm at my wits end.

If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it

Epson Printer "Mismatch between the paper type..."

Bought a new Epson ET-2720 printer which features a small message display. Any time I select photo paper for printing, the Epson print utility tells me: "Mismatch between the paper type settings on your computer and the printer." The printer then refuses to print because of the "mismatch."

I called Epson for clarification and their explanation, as best as I can understand, is that I have to first choose the paper type through the print utility on my computer, and then choose it again using the printer's physical panel. I asked them why the printer is expecting any type of paper at all and they could not answer. They explained that by selecting "over-ride" I can force it to print. That does work, but seems a terrible solution.

Normally, these types of problems are easy to solve because you can simply search for the error message online. This message appears once on Google search.

Any insight appreciated.

Hoping someone can help me. I thought this would be an easy thing but it turns out it is more difficult then I had anticipated. I am trying to send a late Christmas gift to someone in the US. I am getting stuck everywhere. I tried first with Home Deport USA and entered everything in but when it came to paying for the gift card I was stuck as it required a US billing address for my payment.
