Goodbye from MacNN, and Managing Editor Mike Wuerthele
This is it. The last unique words on the MacNN homepage, barring some miracle. Hey gang, I'm Mike Wuerthele, and I've been your host here for the last couple of years, so it's only fitting that I'm the one turning off the lights.

Mississauga explosion

Fatal house explosion rocks Mississauga

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie said the person who died in Mississauga’s home explosion on Tuesday was a female.

Close to 58 homes were evacuated as a safety precaution after one home on Hickory Dr. in Mississauga exploded. Residents have been asked to stay out of their homes as police continue their investigation in the area, she told CP24 Wednesday morning.

* * *

Residents on the quiet Mississauga street were thrown into shock and confusion after the explosion at a house on Hickory Dr. that killed one person, wiped out three homes and caused moderate damage to six to eight others.

“It was like pictures from a hurricane … that’s what it looked like. Everything was strewn all over, tons of 2-by-4s, aluminum, bricks,” said Claudio Cugliari.

Although the cause remains under investigation, authorities confirmed that one person had died and nine others assessed for minor injuries. Firefighters were conducting a search and rescue operation Tuesday evening.

In one photo taken by Cugliari, a woman can be seen being carried from a home by a police officer amid the rubble.

* * *

A man with whom the Star spoke at the police tape line, but who didn't want to be identified, showed the Star images of handwritten letters he said a friend recovered on the street immediately following the blast.

According to a text message conversation, these pieces of paper were collected by the friend on the street in front of the destroyed house, put in a grocery bag and handed off to police.

"Dear God, as of next week everything will fall apart for us," begins the note.

It goes on to say: "We owe mortgage, company, house taxes, water bill, gas bill, hydro bill" and "our outside looks like crap, unkept lawn, overgrown plants, bricks on wall cracking."

The note concludes: "The upstairs bathroom electricity is off, the back bathroom shower has problems and we have No Money to fix or pay anyone."

The note's author is unknown. It is also unclear whether it is related to the explosion.

Asked about the note, Peel Police Const. Rachel Gibbs said it’s "too early to speculate" on what happened Tuesday.

George Hamilton is now Col. Sanders.

How Kentucky Fried Chicken Learned To Embrace The Colonel

Stop us if you've heard this one before: KFC changed its name from Kentucky Fried Chicken because, legally, they can't describe the product they sell—made up of mutant, eight-legged birds without feathers!—as "chicken." The company's chief marketing officer, Kevin Hochman, has heard that one, too. "Over the years, a lot of customers, believe it or not, think that we can't legally say the word 'chicken,'" he laughs. "And the shame of the whole thing is that all of our chickens are from farms right here in Arkansas and Georgia and states that you know. We don't use any steroids or added hormones to our chickens. That's illegal. I would go to jail if that were the case."

These are the things that you have to address if you work in the fast-food business sometimes, but Hochman has been hard at work to change the image of Kentucky Fried Chicken, words that appear in bright red letters on their packaging and website once more, over the past few years. Part of that process has involved hiring a slew of famous faces—Darrell Hammond, Norm Macdonald, Jim Gaffigan, and now George Hamilton—to step into the bright white suit of its founder and mascot, Colonel Harland David Sanders.

* * *

..."the golden bronze of Mr. George Hamilton" was tapped because "the majority of our customers don't know that we have extra crispy, a second recipe for fried chicken, at our restaurant."

Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs)

Public-Private Partnerships
In the 1990s, the Nova Scotia government entered into public–private partnerships in order to facilitate the construction of 39 schools across the province. Over the intervening years the total cost of those leases has been about a billion dollars. Over the next few years the 20-year leases are expiring and the province is faced with some tough choices: extend the leases another five years, walk away from the schools, or buy them outright for about $230 million.

This week we speak with Christine Saulnier, Nova Scotia Director of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. The CCPA recently released an in-depth examination of the P3 process for building schools and concluded it was a flawed process and that much of that billion dollars served to line the bank accounts of a handful of private developers with no real value to taxpayers.

Too much trash?

Is it possible to put too many files in trash at the same time? Seeking to free up space on my Time Machine disk I grabbed about a dozen backup files and put them in the trash. When I tried to empty the trash I discovered (after several hours watching the machine count the files, amounting to about 25 terabytes) that I can't empty the trash. Grateful for any suggestions.

iTunes Library on external hard drive not accessed

I've stored 200GB of music on an external hard drive since my MBP Retina 13" 2015 model cannot hold it.

When I've set my iTunes Preferences to refer to that hard drive, it doesn't. I have to go to each file and find it on my hard drive to play it.

Is there one click way of getting iTunes to access all of my library or should I just put everything in iCloud and pay monthly? I know external hard drives die one day, but I know it's not dead....yet.

Believe It Or Not - A MacBook Pro Saga

I bought a new top of the line MBP in June of 2014, i7, 2.8 Ghz with 16 GB RAM and Applecare as well. Thank goodness for that.

In June of 2015, Apple finally replaced the machine after they attempted to repair it multiple times including two new I/O boards in separate repairs, a new logic board and a new display screen.

Flash forward to this week when my replacement MBP began randomly shutting down and would not restart for hours. It also had a flaky I/O board again and it was replaced last week. Apple called me last evening to advise me that the MBP now also needed a new logic board and would be in the shop until Sunday,

WTF are the odds of me getting three bum MBPs in a row?

Add to that my 2012 MBP also had a failed logic board and was replaced by Apple three months after I bought it.

Go figure is all I can say.

newbie iPhone questions with strange goings on

My wife and I bought iPhones for each other last XMAS. We are still learning and trying to figure them out..

My wife's App Store app acts strange. When the "Features", "Top Charts", "Explore" and "Search" options from the bottom of the screen are selected the screen becomes blank. The “Update" option works as expected. I've had other non-Apple apps appear to be damaged, deleting them and reinstalling always fixed the problem. Unfortunately the App Store app can't be deleted.

Any suggestions?

Now for the second weird problem.

When my wife calls (cell phone to cell phone) my phone doesn't ring. Her calls go directly to my voice mail. Its as if my phone blocks her but I can't find any indication I blocked her calls. I can’t find anything in the settings or her contact that would cause this. She can reach me with both Messages and FaceTime.

You can understand why apparently blocking one's wife's calls is really bad idea ......

I can call her and it works. We've compared many of the setting with no success.

Again, I'm looking for suggestions.

Two things I don't know how to do and could use some advice on:

* Fix a calendar entry in one spot, so it can't be moved by mistake.

There's a woman in London, Ont.....

...who needs a serious attitude adjustment.

Muslim woman attacked in London, Ont., grocery store, police say - Windsor - CBC News

A Muslim woman shopping with her four-month-old son was attacked in a London, Ont., supermarket Monday, according to police.

The woman was at the Superking Supermarket at 785 Wonderland Rd. S. at approximately 5 p.m. when another woman approached her and began yelling at her for no apparent reason, police said.

The woman, unknown to the shopper, allegedly spit on the victim, punched her several times and then tried to pull off the victim's and pulling her hair, police said.

The suspect then left the store.

Police are looking for a woman standing five feet five inches and weighing 150 pounds. She is about 40 years old with a medium build, long black hair pulled back in a ponytail. She was wearing a red Canada T-shirt and black pants and was carrying a green purse.

Police say the suspect spoke with a "heavy accent" but are unsure which language she was speaking.

The victim sustained minor injuries.

This is the fourth publicly reported attack against visible minorities in London in the past eight months.

IP address issue

At work I have a mac mini that runs our Epson proofer (Epson 9900 44" printer). It has the software on this computer, but I can install software on any other mac or windows computer in the building so they connect to the mac mini and can print. The issue I am having is it has a specific IP address. I am getting the error message you see in the screen shot, but what does not make sense to me is the IP address of the mac mini is correct. The Mac Mini is on wifi, and uses ethernet to direct connection to the Epson.

What is going on here? I am hardly an expert with networks, and usually find Apple is pretty simple, but in this case I am really scratching my head.

**solved**

turns out the problem was right in front of me the whole time. My iPad mini was using the IP address. I thought if it was in use another machine would automatically use a new IP address. Turned the iPad off, restarted the Mac Mini and everything is now right as rain.

I'm doing some clean up on my Mac and Daisydisk is telling me that under Library>Application Support>MobileSync>Backup I'm holding 130GB of data! My questions is, if I've synced my devices through iTunes today, can I delete the old files in this location? Or will that cause problems for me in the future?

A/C Clutch query

So the A/C on the car has been starting to give out dying more quickly as temps get higher. Mechanic put a smaller shim in the clutch which has seemingly temporarily solved the issue, however he says the clutch is still slipping.

That leaves me with 2 choices. Replace the clutch assembly or the entire compressor. Considerably more expensive labour wise to do the compressor.

However I am wondering if the reason that clutch slips a bit could be related to turning resistance in the compressor, which for whatever reason increases as temps rise?

Any thoughts from our automotive gurus?

Auto is 14 years old and yes A/C is a must as it also powers the defrosters in winter.

Need Help choosing new router!

My current router a TP-Link is beginning to fail, getting more frequent random dropped internet connections. Have checked with my ISP & confirmed our computers are OK, just the router as the only culprit.

I have a list of features that I feel I need, and the Synology rt1900ac looks like it might be a good choice

Possible to access router & attached storage remotely from iPad ( Mac OS stuff -not critical)
Dual Band WiFi - we also have an Apple Time Capsule connected - extends WiFi.
Latest Wireless network standard (802.11ac) - I noticed some of the cheaper routers are N standard only)
Web base operating system software ("Sinology Router Manager”) looks good - I have not tested this, but
it appears to be something I can easily use. - from my iMac.
Management software looks like something I can understand & use
Ability to connect a USB 3.0 drive (My Book existing 4tb) - use as NAS - I’m considering moving my
iTunes video library [2.5TB] to a NAS, from my iMac, currently on an external G-Technology drive which is giving me problems.
Work with Time Machine - as an alternative option
Work as iTunes server for family network - important consideration. I understand that Synology has
good iTunes compatible software.

Anyone have any experience with this router?
Any suggestions will be appreciated

MBP Retina 13" (2015) and amplifier DAC

I have a stereo amp with a DAC (Harmon Kardon 990) and I use an optical cord with a 3.5mm mini to plug into my MacBook Pro Retina. Luckily, my MBP is new enough to be able to use the 3.5mm mini or the usual 3.5mm because iPhones and iPads cannot.

What my question is, is when I need to use my computer AND want to plug it into my amp it's impossible since the cords are only a few feet long and I want to sit facing my stereo system. So it's either music via MBP or use my MBP without music via amp with DAC.

What do people do? Buy another computer for the sake of being able to use a laptop and also plug it into the amp with DAC? It seems a bit silly to spend that kind of money for the sake of working AND listening!

12 girls found in home of man charged with sexual assault

Pennsylvania authorities discovered 12 children in the home of a man who has been charged with sexually assaulting them over the span of three years.

NBC10 reports the girls’ ages ranged between as little as six months to 18 years. The man is accused of assaulting them between 2012 and 2015, according to the Lower Southampton Police Department.

The 18-year-old victim gave birth to two of the children, allegedly fathered by the suspect, 51-year-old Lee Kaplan.

“This child gave birth to two other children thorugh an inappropriate relationship,” Lt John Krimmel said.

Police are investigating allegations that the 18-year-old had been "gifted" to Kaplan by another family when she was 14, according to the Bucks County Courier.

Transfer A Playlist From One iPhone To Another?

I created a playlist on my MBP of oldies that I play through my wireless speakers in my 1949 Meteor while at car shows that plays for two and a half hours. I use my iPhone 6S to play via Bluetooth.

My wife would like to have the same playlist on her iPhone 5 as she does not have any music on her phone. (I use my MBP to back up her phone, etc.) Is it possible to somehow transfer that playlist of music from my MBP or iPhone to her iPhone?

Previous Gen Mac Mini availability

Time to move on from my Early 2009 Mac Mini...

Have you seen the previous gen mini on Apple's refurb page in the last couple months? That model is way more appealing to me then the current gen. With the current gen I'd have to spend over $1000 to get something similar to my current Mini which sort of defeats the purpose of the Mini in my book.

Looking to spend under $800 on a 2012 mini with at least 8gb RAM and a 1 TB drive (preferably a fusion drive).

MBP mid 2010 Wifi question

I now have Bell Aliant Gigbit Internet
However, my 2010 13" Macbook pro can barely get to 200 mb/s through my 5Ghz Wifi and hard wired through ethernet directly to the fiberop router, I can get up to 470 mb/s.

When I click on Network Utility, I have a link speed of 300 mb/s.

Just before I go busting through settings and trying stuff, is it just my MBP showing its age and that the wireless card can only reach a maximum of 300 mb/s (At best) and the Hardwired ethernet can only reach 470 mb/s even though it is a 1000 card.

Attention - Password and Security Update

Hello all,

Over the next few days we will be implementing some changes to our forum password strength and password expiration policies. To make sure you continue having the best experience possible on the community, we regularly monitor the site and the Internet to keep everyone's account information safe. We've recently become aware of a potential risk to some accounts coming from outside of this community. Just to be safe, we are implementing the following changes to improve security even further:

1) We are asking everyone to change their passwords (and will force a one time reset). Along with every user on the forum, new passwords will need to be more complex, and can't be simple words (sorry, you can't have "fluffy" as your password anymore!). Please use a password unique to this community. Reusing passwords can expose your account indirectly when other websites (Twitter, Linkedin, Badoo, etc) are compromised; and

2) Your passwords will expire on a 365 day basis. When you login on the 366th day, you will have to change it.

We'll also be sending out an email to users to let them know about the changes, in upcoming weeks.

Thanks all,

Apple Announced iOS 10 For iPhones And iPads

Quote:

Better Siri, Photos, and Music, while Maps and Messages are open to developers.

There will be a public beta available in July, and it will be a free upgrade to all compatible devices this fall. There will also be a developer preview available today. Apple made the announcement at its WWDC keynote.

iOS 10 has a redesigned control center with interactive notifications and improvements to widgets (such as those that show calendar and weather information). 3D Touch can now do more: for example, you can press your screen to clear all notifications at once.

Siri is getting improvements, with the ability to book rides on services like Uber and Lyft, start and pause workouts, and make payments to send money to friends with Square Cash and other services. Siri will be more intelligent in messaging. For example, if a friend asks for the contact information of another friend, Siri can automatically provide the contact. Siri can also pull up calendar availability in message threads and let you do multilingual typing without switching the keyboard language.

Apple also promised more intelligent photo management, including facial recognition technology to identify people in photos. The phone and tablet photo tools will help users sort photos by what's in them, such as specific people or objects (like a horse or mountain). Photos can also be sorted by automatically generated topics, like "on the water" or "at the beach." A new "memories" feed in the Photos app will take advantage of the new sorting tools.

Maps improvements include: the ability to pan and zoom further ahead to see traffic conditions, quick controls to see route details, and locations of food and gas stations on your route. Maps will tell you how much longer it will take to go to any of these places.

Apple is opening Maps to developers with Maps Extensions, which lets you make reservations through OpenTable and will enable other types of integrations.

LaCie outboard disk drive query

Purchased a "Porsche Design" LaCie auxiliary disc drive.
One TB in size...
It comes with its own LaCie formatting software.
I stupidly allowed the LaCie software do its own thing, and now have the LaCie software as the drive controller, and occupying some 200MB + space on the drive.

So far have used the Macintosh disk utility to erase the drive, it will not remove the LaCie operating system. The included operating ssytem disc utility prior to El Capitan allowed one to manage the partitions on a disc,(or eliminate them), the current disk utility does not, at least as far as Ican determine.

Is there any disk utility that might ddo what the new (El Capitan) disk utility
not accomplish?

A Little Bit Late

These charges should have been laid at least two or three years ago. One crucial error in the story. These guys were not Real Estate Developers, they were Real Estate Promoters.

I seriously doubt there was ever any intent to actually do anything except raise money and divert it to safe havens. The huge number of shell corporations in this scam allows no other reasonable conclusion.

I had a front row seat for this one. The only hiring this outfit did was salesmen and lots of those. Not really covered in the story is "River Run" a fraud within the fraud!

http://ift.tt/1Pp0pDy

Quote:

Two Calgary real estate developers have been charged with fraud and theft after 864 investors in Alberta lost in excess of $33 million in a proposed resort development project in Crowsnest Pass.

The alleged offences are related to the use of investors' money by Bridgecreek Development Corporation between 2006 and 2007. The investigation by the Alberta RCMP began in 2012.

William Lloyd Bradley, 68, and Colin Joseph Becker, 49, both of Calgary, have been charged with committing fraud and theft. Both men were officers and directors of Bridgecreek Development Corporation during the time of the offences

Is there any way I can add a new playlist to my iPhone6 without killing those that are already there? If I sync with iTunes (which killed those older playlists on my computer with my last upgrade (arghhh!)), that means those older ones will be lost on the iPhone as well.

Any Preacher fans here?

Watched the first two episodes so far and loving the characters and storytelling. Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy are fascinating core characters and the premise is original too. Any one else seen it yet?

By the way SPOILERS PLENTY ahead. [emoji41]

Why does Mac Mini lose login info overnight?

Every now and again my 2 yr old Mac Mini loses my login info for most of my sites that I visit regularly. Things are fine when I shut down at night but in the morning, they are gone! I know I dont deliberately do anything to cause this!

Any ideas?
Thanks!

Stay the hell out of Oklahoma!

OHP Uses New Device To Seize Money During Traffic Stops
You may have heard of civil asset forfeiture.

That’s where police can seize your property and cash without first proving you committed a crime; without a warrant and without arresting you, as long as they suspect that your property is somehow tied to a crime.

Now, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has a device that also allows them to seize money in your bank account or on prepaid cards.

It’s called an ERAD, or Electronic Recovery and Access to Data machine, and state police began using 16 of them last month.

Here’s how it works. If a trooper suspects you may have money tied to some type of crime, the highway patrol can scan any cards you have and seize the money.

“We’re gonna look for different factors in the way that you’re acting,” Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. John Vincent said. “We’re gonna look for if there’s a difference in your story. If there’s someway that we can prove that you’re falsifying information to us about your business.”

Troopers insist this isn’t just about seizing cash.

Political "Science"?

Well it seems that our definition of what science is has changed over the years.

Currently science is defined this way:

science |ˈsīəns|
noun
the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment: the world of science and technology.
• a particular area of this: veterinary science | the agricultural sciences.
• a systematically organized body of knowledge on a particular subject: the science of criminology.
• archaic knowledge of any kind.
ORIGIN Middle English (denoting knowledge): from Old French, from Latin scientia, from scire ‘know.’

And political science is defined as this:

political science |pəˈlɪdəkəl ˈsaɪəns|
noun
the branch of knowledge that deals with systems of government; the analysis of political activity and behavior.
DERIVATIVES
political scientist noun

So if the word science is so loosely defined in our modern age as to include:

• a systematically organized body of knowledge on a particular subject: the science of criminology.

Then art history should be considered a science. So where does it end... every academic body of knowledge becomes a "science". So theology is a science as is the compilation of knowledge about the day to day fluctuations of the stock market....

IMO there is nothing scientific about politics or our understanding of it current or past.

It is at best an art and that is why you will not find Political "Science" listed in a science program at universities.

El Capitain and Canon Pixa MX300 Printer/scanner

*** Resolved ***

I just found this link How-to QuickStart with Canon MX300 Scanner on Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan | Mac Tutorials

that might solve my problem.... I'll test when I get home. That being said, I still hate El Capitain that it has rendered some of my apps worthless

Hi All,

So When I upgraded to El Capitain, my canon printer lost functionality. There aren't any official canon drivers for it, but I was able (via the community here) and online searches to find some drivers that allow me to print.

However the scanner attached to the printer still does not work.

I get greeted with the message that no camera or scanner is connected....even though it is.

Short of buying a new printer is there another option to get it to work?

U. of Calgary hit by Ransomware

This is a disturbing trend in cyber attacks...

University of Calgary pays $20,000 to restore email after ‘ransomware’ attack
The University of Calgary says it paid a ransom of $20,000 demanded after a recent cyberattack in order to regain access to its own email system.

The school said in a news release Tuesday that staff were able to isolate some of the attack and were working to ensure its computer systems are operational.

Linda Dalgetty, a university vice-president, said there’s no indication that any personal data was released to the public.

Dalgetty said while its unfortunate to pay the ransom, the university could not risk losing critical data.

* * *

This type of attack involves an unknown cyber-attacker locking or encrypting computers or computer networks until a ransom is paid, and when it is, keys, or methods of decryption, are provided.

The attacks started at the end of May, locking staff, students and faculty out of their emails.

Now that a ransom has been paid, the university hopes it can regain control of its systems quickly.

The university said Calgary police were investigating.

The Canadian Cyber Incident Response Centre issued a joint alert with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security earlier this year warning about the proliferation of ransomware.

It estimates that there were more than 1,600 ransomware attacks per day in 2015 against Canadians.

Mac Mini early 2009 Power problems (wont stay on)

Today I noticed the fan on my mini was really howling. I closed all programs and did a restart. Now it will power back on but as soon as I try to open programs or run a backup it shuts down. The worst part (entirely my fault) is that I noticed my latest time machine backup was Feb 21

Any ideas what's going on with it? Better yet any ideas who I can keep it powered on long enough to run a time machine backup?

Yahoo mail, Firefox and older macbookpro

I'm having more and more trouble with Yahoo mail not finding the internet or being able to load an email or send an email or load the Inbox and even have screen black out issues on parts of the screen. It's the only site to do this.

Does anyone know if these problems are due to my older 2010 laptop or Yahoo.

I also find that when I am in Firefox, often it is maxing out my Ram....all 4 gigs....well, 3.99 of it! ....I know...that's not much. But for years it's been enough. It doesn't always happened but did again today.

Yahoo?
Firefox?
my laptop?

Google Chrome with large blacked-out sections

I just downloaded Google Chrome compatible with Mac OS 10.9

When I open Chrome, I get large, black sections over most of the chrome window, there is just a relatively small square part of the chrome window visible.

I trashed Chrome and reloaded it - same problem.
Couldn't get to either Chrome preferences or delete Chrome history or to clear browsing data because of the black sections.
Ran ClamAV - nothing found
Other browsers, Firefox, Safari, Maxthon work fine.

I eventually rebooted the Mac and that seems to have cleared the problem....but has anyone experienced that problem?
It's a new one to me and I would like to know what might have caused it

Muhammed Ali - nearing the end

Sad news as Muhammad Ali is put on a life support machine
Muhammad Ali has been put on a life support machine after being rushed to hospital with respiratory problems.

Arguably the greatest boxer in the history of the sport is in hospital and four of his nine children are reportedly at his bedside.

Doctors have told them that they fear he 'is near the end' in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Ali's condition is complicated by the Parkinson's Disease he has been living with since the 1980s.

Three of the 74-year-old's daughters - Laila, Hana and Maryum - flew in to be with him on Thursday.

French accent keyboard no longer working...

Hi all,
This is my first message to you. I live in Montreal and often need to use French accents. I'm not sure what happened but I used to depress the key, say the e, and all of the possible combinations of accented e's would appear and I would have only to select a number to choose which I wanted. Now when I depress a key it just repeats. Can someone help me with this? It's a real pain and I used to really love the way that it worked as compared to Windows. 'Nuff said!

Thanks for any information you are able to provide me. It's all appreciated!

Mike

Out of Room - Time Capsule!

So despite my best efforts I can't keep all my files backed up on a 3TB Time Capsule. Have other HDs but is it possible to spread 1 back up over multiple drives? I wasn't getting the feeling that I could after a bit of goggling. I'd just as soon buy a 5 or 10TB and use that. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

iCloud Keychain... working as intended, or user error?

Maybe I just haven't set it up properly, but does anyone else find iCloud Keychain to be of somewhat limited usefulness?

Just got a new iPhone and, after restoring it from a backup of my previous phone, had to manually enter passwords for non-Apple mail accounts and Facebook. It also doesn't reliably auto-fill passwords for some websites. Thankfully there's the Keychain Access app on the Mac, or some of those passwords would have been completely lost.

Are these third-party sites and apps not built to take advantage of iCloud Keychain? Annoying, if so.

(For those who don't know, Keychain Access shows you any stored password in clear text, as long as you know an admin password for your computer.)

Apple’s Next Big Iphone Update Could Come In 2017, Not 2016

Quote:

If you were expecting the upcoming fall iPhone to blow you out of the water, think again. Apple may switch its major iPhone cycle to once every three years, which would bring the next big upgrade to 2017, not 2016.

Interest in getting the latest and greatest smartphone is waning, and why wouldn’t it — budget phones are now getting equipped with almost all the bells and whistles you would typically find on more expensive devices, and newer devices don’t offer anything new except updated internals. To adapt, rather than releasing a major iPhone upgrade every two years, Apple may be considering waiting an extra year.

The rumor comes from Japan’s Nikkei newspaper, which also says*Apple will only make incremental updates to the highly anticipated iPhone 7 this year. We can’t verify this report, so take this information with a grain of salt. Apple did not immediately respond for comment.

Nikkei’s report says we can expect to see minor changes to the rumored iPhone 7 this fall, such as “improved camera quality,” better water resistance, and a higher*battery capacity. The headphone jack will likely be removed, and Nikkei mentions a possible “high-end” version of the device, which can offer alternative photo capabilities.
More here.
