I had an account here many, many years ago...long enough for it to have disappeared!

Never a poster, but a prolific lurker when I was trying to learn how to use that first iMac after only using DOS/Windows.

That was a a couple of iMacs and Macbook Airs ago! I still feel like a newb with my Macs, but the good thing is that 90% of the time I just have to use them, I don't have to figure out how to solve a problem!

Just wanted to say hi and give a little introduction.

Professional Firefighter in real life, but vintage computer restorer/collector and general all-around nostalgia guy (just ask my poor wife!). lol

Ran a BBS waaaay back from the early 90s until 1998 or so (when the shiny Internet super highway took all the callers away).
Actually used the lock down time in 2020 to start rebuilding my old bulletin board, Dark Systems BBS.

2014 imac wireless keyboard problems

Hello all

The wireless keyboard of my wife's 2014 iMac is misbehaving.

For a while now, it has seemed to be going through (rechargeable 2300mAhr) batteries faster than in the past.
Today replaced with fully charged ones. Properly installed. Clean contacts. (Can't clean the contact in the bottom of the battery compartment.) Keyboard will not turn on. On/off switch feels correct.

I have searched the site but really only discovered that logitech provides a good replacement. I'm not...

Pages and Paragraph Styles

Hi Everyone!
It's my first time trying to use pages for a term paper, and my instructor is a bit of a hardass when it comes to proper APA style formatting. When I use the Table of Contents and Paragraph Style functions, it's completely screwing up the APA formatting and even though I "fix" it back to 12pt Times New Roman, it goes back to the original as soon as another point is added to the TOC!!
Where can I download an APA template for it to follow? Are there any easy fixes for this...

Updating OS on Unsupported Macs

I have seen postings on YouTube regarding upgrading your OS on unsupported Macs. I have 2 Macs, a MacBook Air 2011 and an iMac 27" i7 2011. Has anyone upgraded their OS to Monterey. Are there any caveats? Have you been successful? Should I just leave my Macs as they are?

Converter for PDF file from Kindle?

I called Amazon about getting text-to-speech on the Kindle for Mac and they said it couldn't be done, but if we could convert the PDF file to put it on the computer out of the kindle app, it might work then. They couldn't (weren't allowed) to give me the name of any converters for Mac so I am wondering if anyone here knows of any converter that can be downloaded which will convert a pdf from Kindle onto the Mac. Hope this is clear!
