Bare minimum specs for music production???

I know it depends what you do and what you need.

I record drums and require minimum of 4 tracks. (Kick, Snare and two Overheads)

I mostly use Pro Tools 10.

I've been using countless devices, Maxed Out 2012 Mac Mini Quad, maxed out late 2013 iMac, maxed out 13" and 15" rMBPs...etc.

Recently I've sold my desktop and went for a 2015 13" rMBP, thinking that it would probably be able to handle basic 4 track recording. (2.4Ghz 8gb 128gb I think)

When I started recording, it gave me overload error, I reduced it down to 3 tracks, same after 2 seconds of recording, went for 2 tracks, same thing.

I did not have any plug-ins, wifi was off, no program was running other than PT.

Make long story short, what will be your "bare-bone" set up for hard recording? Funny even mentioning "bare-bone" cause it will still cost fortune...

Some says Logic could handle same stuff much lighter than PT, but I am strictly using PT for now. Probably will grab Apple's new educational program pack.

Kodi Installation?

Might not get the help needed here, but I'll try because colleagues here have always steered me in the right direction.
I had Kodi previously, worked fine. I've been trying to install the Version 17 'Krypton' package (whatever that means) without success. I keep downloading it, run it, and it just hangs with the spinner for hours, saying that "add-on migration in process". The page is a "Gears Build", whatever THAT is. I was used to seeing the blue screen. Instead, it's some weird dude's massive face, probably video game-ish. WTH? Please advise if you can. Thanks.

Schiller: No new Mac Pro, Display in 2017

I think this is unprecedented... Apple VP Phil Schiller talking this openly about product plans? When did that ever happen?

Apple to ditch the current Mac Pro design

Apple has decided to move away from the current, cylinder-shaped design used on its Mac Pro desktop, but creating a replacement will take until next year, executives said on Monday.

In a rare admission of a misstep, executives conceded the unusual design limited Apple's ability to offer meaningful upgrades and failed to meet many pro users' needs. Top executives said the company has begun work on a new desktop and a professional monitor.

"You won't see any of these products this year," Senior Vice President Phil Schiller told a handful of reporters in a discussion at Apple's offices in Cupertino. "It's important to do something great. That will take longer than this year to do."

In the interim, Apple plans to introduce new versions of the iMac with components more geared to professionals later this year. Also, later on Tuesday, it will announce a modest performance update to the existing Mac Pro in an attempt to tide over those who rely on Apple's highest-end machine. The updated configurations will add more processor cores and improved graphics performance.

Among the other points discussed:

Apple reiterated its commitment both to the Mac and to professional users as well as to continuing to develop pro software such as Final Cut and Logic. "The Mac has an important, long future at Apple," Schiller said. "We have every intention to keep investing in the Mac."

Schiller apologized for the slowness of upgrades with the Mac Pro. "We're sorry for what happened with the Mac Pro. We are going to come out with something great to replace it."

The company has no plans for touchscreen Macs, or for machines powered solely by the kind of ARM processors used in the iPhone and iPad. However, executives left open the possibility ARM chips could play a broader role as companion processors, something that showed up first with the T1 processor that powers the Touch Bar in the new MacBook Pro.

The Civil Thread

This is an experiment. I want to create a thread where people do not see the need to bicker about every little thing. Theee can be disagreements, certainly, but people who post here need to agree to try to handle disagreements in a civil manner. Any topic is fair game, but we all need to be aware of each otter's hot buttons and try to avoid pressing them if possible. Apologies are acceptable if we do. No out downs or insults please. Civility is the theme.

Basically, I'm wondering how many posts this thread can go before it gets derailed.

First topic: communication on an Internet forum can be a complicated affair.

Have at 'er.

Let's Rewrite English Grammar!

Languages change over time, and so do the rules of those languages. I was wondering what rules eMac'ers would change in the English language if they could write new rules.

As an example, I would change all the rules with the verb Be, no more I am, He or she is, they are etc... it would be I be working, she be here, they be there...

Your turn..
