getting files from time machine after clean install

I did a clean install of a work iMac. It has a fresh new install of El Capitan. I normally transfer the mail settings over manually, copying the com.apple.mail.plist.lockfile and .comapple.mail.plist

I made a mistake and copied com.apple.MAPS.plist, so it obviously does nothing for getting mail setup.

Now I have a time machine backup plugged into an airport basestation. The problem is when I plug in the hard drive it directly onto the mac, it only shows me a Sparse Disk Image Bundle file. On my iMac with my TimeMachine backup plugged in (not via airport) it shows folders and I could manually go to find what i want if I wanted to.

I was planning on doing that and just pulling the correct preference file and be on my way.

Not sure what to do with this space disk image bundle file, I am transferring it over right now as it works faster then off of the drive. Do I just double click and open it?? Is there anyway I can search this to find the file I need? I tried connecting to holding down "option" as I clicked the Time Machine icon to view other backups, but it did not work.
