Glitch saving Mail messages in Text Edit

For years I’ve been accustomed to selecting and saving groups of Apple Mail messages in Text Edit, using Mail’s Save As and choosing Rich Text Format. Up to now it’s been a fuss-free process. Now, however, Mail saves the selected messages in an .rtfd file, but they’re all out of date order, and sometimes some of the selected messages are not saved. Any suggestions?

Mountain Lion 8.5, Mail 6.6.
