Upgrading MacBook pros with faster RAM

Hi,

I just upgraded two MacBook Pros with faster RAM chips.

One is an early 2011 13-inch MBp, the other a late 2011 MBp.
They both came with 4 GB of 1333 DDR3 RAM, I upgraded each one with two 8GB sticks (ie 16GB per Mac) of 1600 DDR3 RAM.

From reading up on this on the net, I expected the new RAM to clock down the 1333 and be reported as such but when I check system profiler they both get reported as 1600 DDR3.

So does the new RAM actually run at the higher bus speed or does the reporting mechanism just read the info off the RAM regardless of the speed it actually runs at.

And if so, is there some way to check what speed the new RAM actually runs at.
