I have an early 2009 iMac core 2 duo 2.66 which is feeling pretty slow these day, after updating to Yosemite. Would it be helpful to increase memory to 8gb from the current 4 and boot from a external drive fitted with an SSD? After watching the OWC HD install video, I don't really feel like tackling the install, nor do I want pay a shop. The SSD could be re-purposed when the iMac is eventually retired. Or should these costs be put towards a replacement. Used as a home computer with a little Photoshop.
